I hate having to bash a game. But Dungeons really takes the cake. And for the love of the Almighty, save your money and do not buy this.

Awkward controls of your Dungeon Lord (which is the only thing alive you control). You can only build certain things in the way you want them. Your minions that you make pentagrams to spawn, only stay around their pentagram and you can't control them at all. All they do is attack heros when they come close. Not to mention the minions are almost useless unless you put them where they will kill a hero before he ever gets any treasure or anything to make him happy and give you soul energy to collect. Your Dungeon Lord does all the dirty work, and there's only one of him. Its very frustrating to try and micromanage your Lord, and let the prisoners you've collected escape after getting some soul energy from them (To prevent a champion from appearing [very bad day for you if he does]) build your stuff, watch the heros that come in, make sure your treasure is well placed, place strategic pentagrams of the right stuff to stay alive. And even though there is a ground view (almost RPG like) where you fight with your lord, there is too much micromanaging to do it without having your dungeon ripped apart.
I don't expect it to be DK at all. But I do expect it to be playable, and would want it to be enjoyable instead of a stress creator.

This is something I've been hearing from people here and there and it makes me sad b/c I was really looking forward to this game. I was toying around with the idea of pre-ordering it, but convinced myself to wait and see how it turned out.

With games like Bulletstorm, TW: Shogun II, Dungeon Defenders, etc. coming out, I think the only way I'll take a chance on Dungeons now is if steam has a large sized discount on it.

God I loved dungeon keeper as a kid, wish someone would make a rightful sequel.

I'm about to just go download dungeon keeper 2, since it's vaporware now.

I got the game thinking it was supposed to be kinda sorta like dungeon keeper but with micro managing.

but DON'T buy it hoping it will be another dungeon keeper because you will be dissapointed.

I'll re-explain the game but from a guy who likes it point of view.

The game is pretty much a Dungeon Tycoon kinda game. Yes there are things KINDA like dungeon keeper (Dungeon theme, mining, rooms) but its an entirely different fun game on its own. You have to make your dungeon interesting enough for hero's to come to your dungeon, where you make them happy so to speak by making a series of treasure chests and stuff, where they would come in, loot the chest and get happier, giving them more soul energy, which you can use to level up your creatures, get more goblins (the equivalent of the imps in dungeon keeper.), summon bosses like a minotaur or a giant and stuff, or you can use it to create prestiges which make your dungeon fancy. Like adding a sinister looking coffin and stuff. But you cant just make them happy by placing a lotta treasure chests here and there, there are specific needs you need to fufill to get the most out of your victims. Some need to be hurt and attacked by monsters, some need to KILL them, some need you to have certain rooms, a wizard kinda guy wants you to have a library, a knight wants an armory. I'm sure theres more then that but i didnt get THAT far into the game yet.

Yes you can't move your creatures but then again theres not much of a point, the creatures are more strategic in this game, you add a pentagram that summons some wimpy little bats, some hero see's them and runs right at them and BAM! right out of the corner a gigantic group of ratmen (like i said, didnt get that far in the game and this is the most powerful guy i can summon right now :P) come and destroy that hero.

Theres only 3 rooms you can create, a library, and an armory for the reasons i already talked about. And a prison, where you can harvest the soul energy from your victims while they are in the prison. Thats pretty much it for the game, it really is fun as long as you don't expect another dungeon keeper.

I'm hoping they can release some sort of demo. I walked by DK2 at the store every time my parents went shopping and always wondered about it.

A demo would give me a good idea if I would like it or not. Then again, maybe I'll just go find DK2 if it is vapor-ware. Hopefully there's a way to make it run on Windows 7.

Works just fine with the no cd fix; might have to run in compatibility depending on your comp.

Yeah. It is its own game. But when it even compares itself to DK in the ingame dialogue as well as its steam description, you kind of wonder what they're thinking of saying that if its nothing like DK.

As for making DK2 work. 1.7 is the available version. I saw rumors of 1.73 being made by private programers but have not found the version itself.

I'm running it through windows compatibility. Either using Windows 2000 or Windows 98 as the version to run like. Disabled Visual Themes and Desktop Composition. And Ingame I disabled Hardware Acceleration and kept it at 800x600. With all these settings it works like a charm on most windows 7 machines. It will run the higher res too, but has a habit of crashing for me.
