Steam & Source games crashing

Lately, my Steam has been crashing as well as various Source games. I just don't understand why and Steam support would rather make me go through an essay of irrelevant steps than help me. Perhaps someone here could be of more assistance. Let me know what ever information I can provide.

No? What... anyways steam support always does that they're not usually too helpful. Anyways you should defrag and verify your games cache. And if that doesn't work uninstall and reinstall.

I've actually done all that. On top of that, I recently reformatted my hdd and issues seem to persist. I'm starting to think that Steam and Source have become a bit unstable. Other people I've spoken to have had these issues as well, yet some never have any issues at all.

Have you attempted to uninstall all Steam games and Steam itself and reinstall them?

Reformatting will uninstall all that stuff anyway.

Hm, ive never heard of this problem before, when does the game actually crash?

What are you system specs like?
