This Friday Bizarre Creations, Project Gotham Racing, Geometry Wars, Blur, developer is shuttering it's doors forever. Its demise can be be pretty much attributed to gross mismanagement on Activision's behalf. When Bizarre was purchased by Activision back in 2007, they were at their peak, they had just come out with a PGR game and were developing The Club. Some three odd years later they were developing a sub par James Bond game and Blur...a game whose advertising was bungled to no end.

This sad news about Bizarre is coming hot on the heels of a rumor that Activision is looking to grow it's power by purchasing Take-Two. Which is all kinds of scary, considering Take-Two is the publishing house of Rockstar, Irrational, and Firaxis.

This concerns your company because a rumor has been circulating that Activision seeks to purchase your company, this worries me. I beg of you to not negotiate with Activision, for it seems every company and IP they get their hands on gets destroyed. Rockstar, Irrational, and Firaxis are developers very close to my heart, and its your publishing company that has allowed it to grow and flourish.

I understand that this is a complicated industry and that certain amounts of money may make you feel obligated to sell, but there comes a certain time that even the consumer can realize that no sum is worth the risk. I implore you to see this with us.

Yea, this sucks. All this & esp after I posted that info bout Activision killin off the GH series. Now all I really wanna get is GH5 & Metallica. After this, im totally stickin w/ RB.

So both EA & Activision are on my sh*t list now.

Activision's like the Kirby of the video game market..... except they don't utilize the talents they suck up.

Blur is a great game. Advertisement for it was terrible. Activision just threw it to a third party that ported it sloppily to PC and to my amazement after buying it at launch last May the community is still showing a slight pulse.

The only thing that gives me solace about Bizarre closing is that it's been shown that a studio may close, but those talented developers will find work somewhere down the road whether it is with a new group or re-connecting with former members; just look at Runic Games.

nooo
Not the guys who created Blur.
Oh god no.

sarcasm.

You have have to remember that for a long time Bizarre Creation's Project Gotham Racing was considered one of the premier racing series out there. We're talking about a development house that can be traced all the way back to the late 80s.

Now Blur bombed for a couple of reasons and yeah I'll agree that it wasn't the best racer out there. But the real reason why they're gone is not because of Blur, but because Activision roped them into developing a Bond game. A game which obviously suffered from to much management from Activision...mean it's was way "safe" and "by the numbers" to the point of ad nauseum.

So yeah, I'm sad to see Bizarre Creations go and I'm a little peeved at Activision for setting them up for failure.

Activision ruins everything. The first purchase I made from them was Black Ops, and it will also be my last one.

I hope they crash and burn.

Sigh.. I want to boycott Activision..but it's hard since they freakin buy out every developer and publisher that's ever made a decent game... >.<

I will be so sad if Activision buys Take Two.

Did anybody see the monstrosity that they are calling Spyro? I miss the good old days of Spyro from Insomniac :(

If this is what Activision thinks Spyro should look like, imagine what they would do to Big Daddies.

My big issue with Activision...and this one takes that cake over everything else. Is that whenever the buy a company, or heck they do this to themselves, they pretty much only stick with what is successful. This isn't like other companies like EA or Square Enix...no Activision does this to a point where they destroy innovation. Take Neversoft for example, they come out with the first Tony Hawk game in 1999 and are purchased by Activision in the same year. In the 12 years that Activision has owned them...they have come out with one original IP...that's right, just one.

Treyarch has had zero original IPs since Activision acquired them in 2001. Infinity Ward, which was bought up by Activision the day after the first Call of Duty was released in 2003 has not come out with an original IP. Radical has only one new IP since it was purchased by Activision.

I mean look at their line up this year...as reported by wikipedia:

NASCAR The Game: 2011
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
Transformers: Dark of the Moon
Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure
X-Men: First Class
Crash Bandicoot title
Family Guy: The Game
Spider Man title

...Look at that...seriously. Even a cursory glance at the upcoming Activision games at gamespot reveals zero new IPs. This is why Activision bothers me.
