New GTX 460

Ok so I bought the GTX 460 video card which came last week but I couldn't set it up then because I needed 2 4pin molex y splitter connectors and so I got them, hooked it up, installed the drivers and all. Now I try to go into EVGA Precision to get the settings all set but when I try to this and hit "apply" my computer comes up with a blue screen saying it must shut down to prevent damage or something like that, this happens when I'm not even in a game and try to set the settings. I don't get it....Can anyone help with this? :scared:
 
well all of it basically so i can get the most out of my card when in a game or at least to make the game look good
 
I'm not sure I understand.

Are you just moving the sliders all the way? If so, that is never going to work.

I'm guessing that's what's going on.

If you're not up to speed on how to use Precision I would lay off it for the moment. Reset it to stock settings and close it down. The 460 will handle most anything you throw at it without too much drama as is.

I'm surprised no one saw this a key indicator.

OP, what is your PSU? I'm willing to bet it's not powerful enough for that graphics card.
 
you can use one of the molex splitters not to sure about 2 but i wouldnt advice using any they dont carry as much power as the 6pins

The only reason i had to buy 2 molex y splitters is because when i bought it, i didn't know the card came with 2 6pin power connectors to power the card and my 9800 gt only had 1 and so i had only 2 female ends and so i bought the y splitters to plug in each one of those to have 4 female ends so that i can plug in both the 6pin cables to the card and the power supply is from CyberPowerPC (where i bought my computer)
 
What is the model of your powersupply?

I have a feeling it has an insufficient 12v rail.

It's an Xtreme Gear 700-watt PSU with 38A. Talk about under powered for a 700-watt PSU. That would have 50 amps or more on a good unit, which tells me that 700-watts is the max the PSU can handle. High end manufacturers rate their PSU's at continuous load, while cheap guys rate at max load.

A Corsair 650-watt unit would be far superior.
 
38A on the 12v rails? Yikes.
Mike 650W has a 54A rail. ^_^

I would consider getting a new powersupply. Before I recommend anything, though, what is your budget?
 
Any suggestions on powers supplies? I get money next month but im not going to spend a fortune on one
