So, I have been due for a new desktop gaming rig for probably 6 mo. and since my video card blew up this week, I think I am going to stop delaying. A couple of things to keep in mind when making recommendations, currently I use a 32" 720p TV for my monitor so I am not so concerned that the video card output high graphics, but fast enough to run new and upcoming games smoothly. I would prefer to allocate more of my budge to the CPU and Mobo as apposed to the video card and ram since they are more easy to upgrade in the future. I kind of have in my head that I would like an i7 (not sure which one) and 10,000 RPM HD, but if you have a good argument, you can talk me out of it. Case and power supply I just care that the fans are not too loud.

Budge: $1000ish

Your input is greatly appreciated.

Edit: I am open to assembling it myself (with help from a friend :P) or doing some kind of select the components and having the seller assemble it.

and also why do you want a 10k rpm HDD? theyre hella expensive in my personal opinion. yeah its cool everything reads and writes that much faster but i cant justify spending 2-4X the amount of a "normal" speed HDD for the same amount of space. but then again its not my computer haha so if thats what you have your heart set on and you have the money for it then ya can go for it =]

I would highly recommend building your own, because you save a lot of money compared to prebuilt system.

For example, that build that lolcopter linked is horrible for the price. A Phenom II 955 and an HD 5570? That's horrible for $1,000.

So, if you are willing to build one, what all would you need? The tower and an OS?

To add on to this...

What will you be doing with the Computer itself once you have it?
Gaming?
Programming?
Image Editing?
Video Editing/Producing?
Checking Emails?
General Internet Surfing?
Playing Solitaire?

yea you can definitely build your own alot cheaper but if you have no idea how to then you have no choice. i built my setup (amd 965be, sli 460 1gb ssc edition, 8gb ddr3, 1tb hd, h70 liquid cooling with upgraded fans, and a coolermaster haf case

I Suggest a minimum of 4G of RAM. What are you thinking? Mac or PC or don't care?
