Creating something buzz-worthy (positive, negative or questionable) that would spread awareness about her/her videos is evidence that she knows what she's doing (ie. make money).

Oh I understand, and I agree with you. However, I think I'm looking at this from a different perspective. As an artist her job is to create music - and a lot of the time from songs that other people write for her, for example, Telephone which was originally written for Britney Spears. The advertising, marketing, exposure campaigns are created by her manager, team, record labels etc...
I may be wrong, but I would not combine Gaga's exposure to any marketing actions of her own, yet by those dictated from others. I think that makes sense, lol.
Also, I dont know why I'm talking about this, I dont even listen to Gaga, but I do find it facinating how she is crammed into every social advertising outlet imaginable. I probably would like her if I wasnt told I was supposed to.
Whats the saying, any advertising is good advertising. Doesn't matter if its god or bad as long as its out there, and your name remains relevant. Look at Lohan, Paris Hilton, reality stars. They are famous for being famous, not for any talent they posses. So for example with Gaga, it may not be that she is talented or good, or crazy, but the fact the her face is f'ing everywhere..
And with that being said, for artists like Gaga, who are known for being "crazy", whether its with fashion, style, music. They have to keep up that persona or something is wrong, there career falls down. Thats why you see such EXTREMES in things like fashion, music videos. They literally have to go big or go home.
