So heres my issue. My dads laptop uses Windows Vista & for some odd reason, it shows that it connects, but shows it as an unidentified connection. Therefore, it can't connect. I have the correct pw in it. This is the only device that won't connect to the network.

Is this a new router or has this issue been happening recently and "out of the blue" on a current router?

Here's a quick way to factor-out any problems you have:
(Do this with the computer that is having the problems)
Go into Command Prompt (CMD) and type in the following command:
"ipconfig /all" (without quotations)

After that, right-click the box and click "Select All", then CTRL+C to copy the text.

Paste the text as a reply here in
Code:
 tags.

(If you don't know how to open Command Prompt, then follow this method):
Go to Start, then in the Search bar at the bottom of the menu, type "cmd.exe" (without quotations) and hit enter. MAKE SURE you are logged in as administrator of the computer.

So heres the info you requested on the ipconfig /all bit:

Wireless card drivers maybe?

That is possible, yes. It could also be the routers' firmware (unlikely but possible).

From looking at that log, there doesn't appear to be a problem with TCP/IP settings (though I could have missed something by mistake).

- As I asked before, is this a new router?

- Have you ran a Windows Update recently on the laptop having the problem?

- Maybe you have done this before, but just to make sure...
Have you right-clicked on the network icon showing "unidentified network" and then clicked on "Troubleshoot problems"?

So I did some testing w/ this Ethernet cable that I have. To answer your question, yes it's a new router. Anyways I test 2 cables on the modem that time warner gave us. Plugged the cables straight into the cat5 port. Same result (unidentified connection). Gonna hit them up & either fix the issue on their end or send me another modem.

So here is the latest. I've tried using the other cat5 cable & same result. I finally figured out that the laptop wants to use the guest connection (however there is no pw setup for the guest that I know of & I setup the router. Looks like I'm gona have 2 restart the router unless someone has a better idea.

1: Why would you need to restart the router? Can you not login and try to disable/edit guest access from a computer that's plugged into it?

2: What router are you using?

3: If it's a Cisco/Linksys router, have you tried using the software that came with the router (Cisco Connect) to disable or edit the guest access?

1. I would need the other laptop to disable/edit the guest access & it wont be available until late saturday.

2. You answered it in 3.

3. I will wait til my dad gets home to use the software & disable the guest access (hopefully the software will help me to do that). I was really hoping to do that as a last ditch effort.
