Each week you will be given a certain project to work on within Photoshop. The point of doing this is to challenge yourself to accomplish the given task and then show off the finished project to the rest of EdgeGamers. This is not competition against other people to see who does the best but a competition against yourself.

We will be alternating between two different types of the challenge each week. One week will be a generalized "theme" (working with glass) that you must follow with the next week being a set project (vector creations). This ensures that you guys have quite a bit of freedom to create something the way you are used to, while the next is a bit more learning intensive and encourages you to think outside your element.

This weeks project:

Game Meets Game
=

Create an image that brings elements, characters, or ideas from one game to another. Make the changes elaborate instead of just incorporating a render from one game onto a background of another game.

Guidelines:

Image Size: 1920x1080

*When posting on the forums please scale in half, you may post link to the HD version.

The image you create should be something of your own idea. You shouldn't be copying other peoples art that has already been posted.

When posting include your thought behind your artwork, techniques you used, things you learned, things you thought you could have improved on.

HAVE FUN.

Sorry for the late post. A lot of things coming up lately that get in the way when I want to post things like this.

Week 4 of the Photoshop challenge will end in one week - 3/9/11 (Next Wednesday).
Good luck everyone have have fun! Hope to see everyone's creations soon.

Notes: Game Meets Games!
TO START OFF, I am extremely new to Photoshop, so this is my first editing project. (be nice)
CS:S is my main addiction, the servers, the people and the laughs; However, this is not the only game I play. I wanted to incorporate all the games I play! I am big into Dod Realism and I play TF2 and BF:BC2, I did not want those other games to feel down about this post so I decided to give them all the spotlight, CS:S being my main babe.

What I did was:
Layer selections from other games onto a screen shot in of CS:S
- Lots of layering, editing, erasing
- Contrast/Brightness adjustment to roughly match the original layer
- Skew (proportion/orientation)

Ok lets just get to viewing the results... (lets play ISpy)

learn how to make better shadows... Tried shadows for my DOD scene, just didn't work out

Thoughts:

I recently have been playing the Crysis 2 demo, and thought I would find some cool background pictures of it.
Than for the Counter-Strike side, I received a steam message from Boe Jangles saying to fill up Inferno, so what I did was take screenshots while in the server. So I merged the two togather into one game, I'm not so sure how I got a three at the end :\ .

Some Improvements:

Scaling, the CT farther away is too large compared to the other CT's and Vehicles.

Positioning, again the farther CT appears as if he is walking straight into the barricade in front of him.

Blurring, I think I could have added more deapth of field to this picture to make it look a bit more real.

Shadows, for me one of the hardest things to do is add an accurate shadow that fits the perspective of the main picture, for example, the CTs do not have any shadows at all.

Some techniques I used:

When I was taking the CTs out of the original picture I used the magnetic lasso and refined the edges. Once I took out some CTs I put them on a separate layer and edited the Color balance to match that of the background picture (in this case Cyan Highlights). As a finishing touch, I used the brush tool to add some dust particles over the CT layer so it would look like they blended into the background.

Yes Trippy did do a great job, I like the blur-like effect on the edge of the players, Adds an emotional dimension.
