You can pay around 300 bucks and never have to pay again. Star Trek is pretty cool and is still being improved on. Just give it time.

That game just didn't feel like an mmo at all, more like Guild Wars. Combat was fun, but it was instanced all to hell, weak recycled content consistently being shoved down your throat, and there was no real option to live the federation lifestyle. It was all shoot first and sort everything out later. Felt like Federation was the Klingon Empire with actual content b4 they finally brought out content for the Klingons.

All in all, it just turned out to be another Cryptic disappointment for me. :[

Woah dude.. don't hate on guildwars.. that's the only MMO that's been able to keep my attention for like... 4?... almost 5 years now?.. I've never taken a break and gone back to an MMO like I have with guildwars.. even WoW wasn't... "wow" for me.. rofl
 
Not a Star Trek fan. Not to mention, from all the negative reviews for the game I think I will pass.

I must've worded something wrong in there. Those comments weren't directed at Guild Wars. I was saying that there were some comparisons to it in STO and it just didn't feel right in the Star Trek universe.

I've actually been a GW veteran since Jan. '05 and it's a fine game that has its own faults. It's not an MMO but a fine game nonetheless. I was not impressed with many things in Star Trek that made it feel the opposite of what they were claiming it to be. I have buddies that say STO is slowly getting better but I just can't justify paying to play it anymore myself.
 
Tried it when it released, and it just didn't stand up to other things out there.
 
i pre ordered it played with my co worker i ran one of the biggest fleets(guilds) in feds for first 2 months with over 500 active members, called eminence it was really fun :D

Gah! I've been playing it on and off. Just been busy lately. Look me up on Steam and TASK FORCE ECHO FTW! Lol, we couldn't even get enough ppl to make it a proper fleet.

It's definitely not a great game, and liking Star Trek is most definitely a pre-requisite.
