evver thought about putting youre entire computer in liquid ?

there is one key comment made by someone that says the hard drive does eventually fail.
I am very curious now to look up the conductivity of mineral oil, and aslong as it doesnt short the motherboard it doesnt surprise me. You knwo, you can put a hair drier in your tub full of water and its still blows.... thats right - its does. It only turns off when you stick your hand in it (AS LONG AS YOU HAVE A GFI OUTLETT) otherwise you get exlectricuted. .... but either way dont try it.
What I wanted ot mention was that someone made the comment that "dont you know hard drives are hermetically sealed". That statement is either right or wrong depending on hwo you define hermetically sealed. Often times it means air tight - in which case the person is wrong, and other times it means enough to keep out contamenents and microorganisms.
Hard drives are infact not air tight, there have a hole you may see labled as "do not obstruct hole" or "do not block or cover". That hole needs ot remain open to allow air to pass through it. The purpose of the hole is so that the pressure inside and outside of the drive are equal evne if you bring your computer to Everest. The hole itself has a really good fine filter on it removing dust and other particulates. So technically, I would believe that the hard drive would fail faster over time if in mineral oil.
Hard drives break because of their mechanical parts, not electronics, and not only would oil put more strain on the parts but you will drastically also be severely affecting your seek times latency and overall speed and performance of your drive as the platters and arms must move in a substance more dence than air.

Hmm, this might end up having to be very customizable but an idea of a special compartment for the hard drive so that it's not affected by the mineral oil and just the air itself, plus if it's sealed in oil, NO DUST CLEANING woo!

well, i dont think i am qualified to answer this quesiton, i dont work for Wd or seagate 
All i know is that the drive works best when at equilibrium with the surrounding pressure. So keeping air inside and oil outside would not be equal pressure. I suspect it wouldnt be as good however i cannto say why.
It was also pointed out that once you do it, it stays that way. You just arent going to get the oil cleaned off to put into another case without seriouse effort. Upgrades? i'm not sure if the oil on the contacts will mater hwne you slide in a new card or stick of ram.
I also dont know what happens when you leave it running for a long time and the entire oily case gets hott, i suspect it shouldnt but what actually prevents it from turning into a frialator? (wrong oil i know) with air it gets replaced by cool air from your house / the world. With water cooling, you can replace the water, and doesnt the water run through a cooling device?
I just dont think you want to get into this for a long term unless you yourself are making the video and are getting compensated somehow heh.

That is awesome, now they need to try coolant and have it cycle through a radiator to keep it cool.
if you could fill it full of collant and have it work, then itd be able to stay really cool.

What if they did some crazy thing where they used current water cooling devices in an oil filled tank? (No I'm not saying fill it with water! Water cooling devices.) This would have water circulating which would help to cool the devices. Other wise you just have oil with a high specific heat which would heat up and take a long time to cool down.

OK, I got a question that concerned me.
The fan in the power supply unit spin fast in order to keep the PSU cool, right? Then, wouldn't that mean a lot of energy required to spin the fan, right?
From what I see in the vid, when they pour the oil into the tank with PSU in it, the fan started to spin slow due to the resistance by the oil around it. My question is, wouldn't that mean all that energy that need to spin the fan at a high speed just got wasted? coz energy only manage to spin the fan but not at a high speed?

ok a few things, first remove the fan from the ps, cpu and vid card. This way there is no extra resistance and energy used to turn fans. Fill then turn it on.
Second, since the dvd drive has to be outside the enclosure, put the hdd there as well. It looks as if it is covered by the aquarium lid. You could have two drives and a dvd fine there from appearances.
Third have the power switch outside the enclosure. This way you can turn it on after you fill the thing.
Bottom line, I would not submerse a hdd nor would I leave fans on stuff that will be in oil. This would be great for Mythbusters...oh heck I just submitted this to them.... lets see...

i guess you could section off a part of the tank and place the hd and cd drives there to make it look like they were in the tank to but they wouldn't actually be in the oil.
