Best compact/midsize truck for $2000?

Can anyone recommend the best 4WD compact pickup that will be the most reliable for around $2000 dollars? I need a car to drive to school every day, but still hold its own in the Spillway. MPG is also pretty important.

Just thought I'd ask you guys for a second opinion. I can't drive till September, but I was going to start look now and use my savings account (from mowing lawns lol) to buy one and work on it all summer.

Im not so good with cars and stuff but apperently toyota's are really reliable if thats what your looking for (especially some of the older ones). May be the 1988 toyota hilux? but you may not like it cuz of how old it is and stuff. What would you call compact though?

I guess I mean smaller than an F-150. I don't care for age, really the older the better.

well, thats all i can think of and i guess the 1988 (or a little early like the 1993 i think) is smaller than the F-150. Good luck with the search!! and if you find something better, go for it and not my advice ^^.
