The total with a couple other small things is stretching my budget about to the snapping point. I will listen to any sane suggestions(please no 8800s!! lol), and may modify my purchase to suit.

Thanks for taking the time to look this over! I will probably be buying this Monday, the 11th, so get your responses in before that, please!

are you suggesting that an 8800 is not a sane suggestion? Your video card as selected is holding the system back.

Also, ... PQI?

and insertmyrandomrantabouthowihateasusbutdonttechnicallyputanyoneelsedownforlikingthem.

i like the psu and its wattage, enough for future plans but not 7000. Solid processor, hard drives? cd drives etc?

also, i looked at basic specs but i didnt check for compatibility. I leave that up to you.

Your choice of processor conflicts with the video card. The processor won't really help the performance, because the lack of power from the GPU will just end up bottlenecking the system for gaming. You might want to invest a little more in a video card. It is not really built to be a gaming card, and you would immediately notice this. It is more for video editing and video playback than playing DoD. (Btw, that is a very good choice of processor and I would probably keep it in your build.)

As for the ram, I personally do not see a need for more than 2 gigs for today's gaming. I would suggest two 1 gig sticks of dual channel ram (6400 800mhz). This would give you faster ram, which is more important for gaming than a large quantity of ram, and it costs the same, if not a little less, than your current choice.

This is just my opinion, and I am not trying to bash you for your choice of hardware ^^. I do like the case and power supply, though. Case looks well ventilated and that is a sufficient power supply for what you are building. Haven't looked really at the motherboard, but if you decide to not go with an ATI gpu, then you will need to find a different one, because the chipset is built for ATI.

Try out PQI's turbo memory (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820141299) or OCZ's memory modules, they might be a little pricey-er-ish but you'll get a lot more performance. Another thing, the video card could be a lot better for the price... (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161174 - as I suspect you're an ATi fan?) The IceQ cooling solution is rated as the top air-based cooling system for video cards, and many have reported VGA's with the IceQ cooling system running at ~40-50C.

The motherboard and processor looks like a solid combo, and the PSU is good enough (OCZ is a trusted brand in my book). Anyways, best of luck, my friend.

Right now, I dont have the $200+ for an 8800. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130082
or this?

You guys need to give me options with your criticisms! :D

Also what ram is a good brand. And Green Monkey, how much should I get. Is 2GB enough? Will it only hold me back?

not sure what i did there! lol (too tired) ^

As for my hard-drive, I'm gonna keep the one I have my OS on and just install a second one for all the other programs and files. I'll probably just format the old one for now.

As for my cd/dvd drive, I thought this one might be ok...

I have a good keyboard and a Logitech MX Revolution wireless laser mouse.

well if you are getting a new drive you should use that one for your os. use the old one as storage.

RAM ammount depends on Os. 2 GB is fine for xp, but I would consider 4 GB for Vista. (I have vista and 2 GB and wish I had more).

And you should consider the 8800 GT, its cheaper than the gts. Or the nicer ATI cards. I understand money is short, but building an unbalanced computer doesnt make any sence at any price range. If you cant afford the card, you might as well downgfrade your processor. (Although at that price, why would you?)

If you are wanting to run DoD:S at a good frame rate then that card would be awesome. Why are you going with the AMD when you could get a faster cheaper Intel option? I'm not trying to be a fan boy but the benchmarks and price points speak for themselves right now and they favor Intel.

So you're first list was $650 or so.

My suggestions would make for a faster overall PC that would last you a while and only costs: $645.

It's not really a price difference but it is a faster PC. I'd guess you could max out DoD:S to the highest resolution it'll go to with every graphical setting maxed out and still sit around 50-60 frames per second. Same with any source engine game: TF2, HL2, etc. It'll probably even play Crysis although not maxed out or anything. My PC isn't as good as the one I spec'd for you and I can do that so I don't doubt that the new one could.

Btw that 8800GTS will work just fine. If you are planning on adding another one in the future though, like in a couple months to SLI them or something (the price will probably fall another 50 dollars once the 9800's come out), then you would need a different motherboard. But if you have no intention of running SLI then keep that one. SLI would require a different chipset, since that one is meant for Crossfire (ati's version of SLI).

I dont have time to respodn to everyones comments I will later but i cant leave without saying - stop picking on rosewill, i'm sick of everyone buying $25 rosewills and comparing them to $200 antec true powers. you can buy a $20 model fram any brand and it will be crap, ford escort chevy cavalier, vw rabbit - all crap if you compare them to like a ford gt. I have purchased several mid range rosewill and high range rosewill and have been very happy.

Not bad, that should run DoD:S and CS:S just fine. Everything should run smooth at max settings it looks like. You will probably be getting constant 60-80 fps, which is all you really need =).

I just about never comment on case as its about personal preference.

Processor i like
Motherboard (i dont like asus) but more importantly, do you realise that you got a Crosfire (ATI) chipset motherboard for your nvidia card?
RAM - lol Kingston,... Kingston is like kitty cats, people liek tem because they are cheap or free but they wish they could afford a better animal like a dog.
GPU - www.tomshardware.com click gpu click gpu charts and look up for yourself how the card performs, you may find that the 320mg gts performs worse than the GT and the GT may be cheaper is some cases but not all.
Powersupply i like, but havnt looked in detail i assume it has the connections you want.
DVD - meh to samsung, lots of people like em i guess, but I use Plextor on my personal computer and i also like liteon because they are almost free and last as long as any other brand.

I have that case and like it. The only problem I've had with it is that it has a dial to adjust speed fan which is located right next to the headphone jack. The power going through the dial for the fan creates feedback in any device that you plug into the speaker jack. I don't use this jack so it isn't a problem for me. Check out some of my pictures here - [link=http://inductedstorm.ath.cx]CLICK ME![/link] I also put in some switches in the back to allow me to turn off the LED's with out turning off the fans. This had to be the best thing i ever did! !lol
