Battery issue?

Well it seems one tech problem leads into another.

Fixed a problem with my laptop thanks to the wonderful people who help people over the EGO forums. But it seems I have another issue

So I have a Asus K50IJ, Windows reads the battery at somewhere between 80-91% depending on how it feels, but the pc can not run more then 30 seconds - 3 minutes on its own battery power. If it is running on battery power the battery icon blinks and says something may be wrong with your battery consider replacing it. Basically I am trying to find out if the battery is the issue or something between the plug and the battery.

I'm wondering if the battery % level could be reading wrong and the battery is not being charged nearly at all, and the battery runs a residual charge every time I unplug it. Does anyone know of a third party application I can use to test this?

All help and suggestions I am great full for! Thanks in advance!

If your batt is more than 1-2 years old...I'd suspect the batt.

Any other info you can provide?

3rd party apps...hate to say it, but MRI (BestBuy/GeekSquad testing software) may be a good test suite for ya. 3rd party 'search engines' may assist you with acquiring the software needed. If you have trouble, please let me know.

I've found a few 'Downloads' using them 'Search engines' Debating whether its worth the risk.

I think its the battery, when I unplug the battery it runs down to 87% every time and dies, I think because it is so low that windows doesn't correctly register it.

I agree with your logic.

eBay time...

after 2-5 yrs battery life on laptops degrade very fast, buying a replacement is your best bet if your time line is about this.

Yup it seems the battery is going on it, Best thing to do is get a new battery for it and with Angellas's help and Raynor you'll be fine.

Should I buy a off brand battery? I was thinking I should get a ASUS branded battery, i found one for $40 on ebay.

Never argue with OEM parts...

Other thoughts....my list of NO-NO when buying used;

-Hard Drives
-Batteries
-Parachutes....unrelated ;)

Don't forget about chargers! Any off-brand charger
is a terrible thought for a laptop.
