So, ocassionally when I play Pyro, I get told I'm horrible for my choice of flamethrower, and that's with them not even bothering to run around and watch how I use it. I mean, do people really hate the Backburner that much? I use it because I like it, (Not to meantion I love seeing CRIT! pop up over people's heads when I ambush them with a mouth full of cookies hidden in my mask.) but it's getting to where too many people are getting trash talky over mic when they see me and other people use it.

So in short: Why do people hate Backburner? I know for some it's because of no compression blast to counter ?bers, but then I see people getting mad at them getting one in the beta. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this.

Play with what you like. I dislike the backburner because I feel like I can't defend against it if a pyro gets the jump on me, but I mean, it's just another item. If someone hassles you, you can politely remind them that TF2 is for fun, and you're allowed to play the way you want to.

I dislike pyros. Even if they don't have a flamethrower equipped.
Never had a problem with the backburner, in fact, I am more annoyed by airblast spam.

Backburner does more damage. So, even up against another Pyro using the Degreaser or regular, you should still win (assuming they don't airblast you).

I dislike when people say Pyro is a useless class (happened earlier today).

If anything it's one of the most useful. Spy checking, deflecting rockets, sentry rockets, stickies, grenades, arrows, ubers, pee, air blasting off the point (one of the most nail biting endings if you do it in Mesa), extinguishing teammates, removing sappers, etc. Sadly some people nowadays forget it's called TEAM Fortress, so they don't do much of this.

I don't have a problem with backburner pyros. If you were sneaky enough to get behind me, you deserve the kill

I do not mind people using the backburner but the reasons I can think of for why people do not like it are.... No airblast for reasons mentioned ,and to use backburner to its fullest, like you say ambushing works great but removes you from the offense in a way because you are trying tactics that could take you off the front line. Imo wide open maps like Turbine and Mesa the Backburner does not work as well as the others, but on smaller maps I can see it being more effective. And last some people use the backburner like a regular flamethrower (cuz of a cool skin -classic WM1) with no intention of hitting from behind and may create a bad rep for the weapon in some peoples eyes.

I just hate pyros in general because of their speed. They get so much residual damage on me when I'm playing demo or soldier because they always seem to run up to me before I can shoot at them. :x

Probably why people trash talk you over the mic is because most people (As in pugs) hate dying a silly way, and when a pyro runs up behind them and gets automatic crits then ofcourse they will get mad.. i personally then its hilarious but then again, the regular flamethrower is very effective against soldiers, since I main soldier I try to stay away from pyros because I have seen very good ones where they can reflect the rocket back at me even if I shoot it at the ground in front of them.

But yes, like everyone else says... it's a game.. play what you enjoy the most and just have a fun.

main reason why i hate backburner pyros (sure everyone can use what they want) is that your dead in like 2 secs in vents on mesa. even when you see them a bit earlier and try to run away the flames hit you. and backburner is rly just w+m1 which i think is sad :/

The only time I rush in there head first, is when..
1) I see an engie setting up a sentry in a spot that will screw over my team.
2) I see lots of people. Suicide Pyro is fun, and medics get to feel my burning wrath of seething fiery madness first.
3)I'm in one of my retarded moments and not thinking straight.

Heh, when I play pyro I use normal flamethrower for the rocket jumps

Of course, I basically only play pyro on Badlands where its easy to pull off a rocket jump.

Other than that play how you want, on the rare times I play pyro in mesa I use backburner. The reason I don't like dieing to it is because it kills you so fast, but if I let you get that close in the first place thats my fault so I deserved the death. Unlike deaths from random criticals, which I despise since 99% of the time you are killed by them you did not deserve to die.

But the Backburner is really great on mesa. Drop down on them running to L/C and burn them for 0.5 second.

If someone is yelling at you for using the Backburner, tell him he's mad because he cant get kills with a weapon without air blast, and that he's mad at getting insta-killed by back crits!
