Today I was playing on Valparaiso and sniping it up as usual. However when I made it up to one of the best sniping spots in the first section of the map, a squad mate of mine and I were asked to come down from the side sniping spot. It was a cliff edge overlooking the bomb points A and B. After wondering why we were asked down from the strategic point, we were immediately answered by "it's a rule in the server." Well I for one don't follow rules without a good reason behind the rule, so when I asked the admins to expand on the rule reason, they promptly responded by saying "it's not a discussion. End it."
A few other players explained that it was considered an exploit. However if it was an exploit, why would other servers allow it? The reasoning behind the exploit statement was that if someone could not reach a location by foot, then it was considered an exploit. However how can anyone reach any high altitude location by foot? The assistance of a helicopter air drop was needed to reach the sniping spot, however I was not off the map at any time.
Another reason that was brought up, was that it was "off the map." However as I stated before, I was never off the map when I descended from the helicopter onto the cliff edge.
As I kept asking for a more logical reason which no one could supply, I ended up being removed from the server because I was a "server disruption." That's a great way to spread the understanding of rules.

*edit* map was wrong

He does make a good point, we should consider this to change our rules. IMHO that is not a exploit but a tactical spot that is WIDE open to being shot. Not only that but people on the ground have a better view than the sniper does.

Oh yes. That's another aspect of the location that I forgot to mention. The cliff edge is wide open with barely any cover for the snipers looking down. People up on the cliff edge can easily be counter sniped if not taken out by any other class. It is a completely logical strategic point with a high risk of exposure to the enemies.

Here is the current Guidelines for exploits / out of bound spots. Sorry for the confusion, you can always come on vent to talk to us if you have any questions about rules.

If you use a chopper to get to a specific place thats fine as long as its not atop trees, inaccessible cliffs, ect. Places that are ok are things like the lighthouse on Valp, the windmills on Heavy Metal ect.

In Vietnam theres "out of bounds" around spawns but if you run in only to steal a chopper or something thats fine as it falls under vehicle stealing or sabotaging.

That being said, if that cliff is inaccessible other than by helicopter it is considered an exploit, otherwise they would have made a path to the top of the cliff.

If you do feel that this rule is illogical you are always welcome to go to the forum drop box and post a request for that spot. Thanks for playing on our servers and I hope to see you on there again.

Then shouldn't the lighthouse everyone snipes from be an exploit as well? The only way I know of to get up there is helicopter which by server rules would make it an exploit no?

Sorry I have always been confused about this rule. Personally I never use either spot in pubs or our server was just always curious why lighthouse was ok but the cliff was not when you get to them the same way(Meaning via helicopter not by foot).

You are correct sir, the lighthouse is an exception to the rule approved by leadership, that is why I said put in a dropbox request or ask leadership if that spot can become an exception.

The only problem is that if that cliff is an exception, why cant all cliffs be an exception, so most likely it will not be approved. If leadership were to start approving cliffs here and there on this and that map everyone would be scratching their heads.

The rules on exploiting are pretty cut and dry. If you have to go out of bounds on foot or use a vehicle to get there, it's not allowed. The lighthouse and the windmills are notable exceptions, but all cliffs (such as the one at the first base on Valparaiso, or the cliffs in Nelson bay, etc) are not allowed.

If you would like to discuss it, I'd be more than happy to entertain a conversation on Ventrilo.

oooo I didn't know that it was voted and approved I'll let my friend know who plays in our pub with me cause he always asks me why too and I never knew what to tell him other then "it's our rules man" lol

Thanks for the info druid and slaz :)

I'd go ahead and talk with one of the advisors on Ventrilo, like Slaz suggested, it would be the easiest way to get an answer you can understand. :)

Thanks for playing on our servers though!

So if the location is below the top of the trees than it's considered legal? But looking at the top of the light house however, I would not consider that a playable location because there is no other way to get up there without an air drop. That's the same thing with the cliff overlooking the first section of Valparaiso. If anything I would not allow the top of the lighthouse because there is more cover than the cliff. As I have stated before, the cliff has little to almost no cover and can be easily countered by people on the hill by the water on the side of B. Also, I have been able to make it to that sniping location without leaving the boundary with a proper air drop.

Nin-Ha, you really need to get on vent and talk to an advisor or leadership about this if you are still confused, please get on Ventrilo when you get the chance: voice.edgegamers.org Port: 29272 and look for BC2 leadership to talk to about this.

Well I for one don't follow rules without a good reason behind the rule...

I am pretty sure this is the wrong attitude to have if you are going to play in servers with a clearly defined set of rules, that you don't own, rent, or support...

I stopped reading. This argument has been brought up numerous times and has been discussed at length by leadership. We say it is out of bounds, you follow the rule.

Hello all,

I agree gingertonic the argument has been bought up so many times and will continue to be brought up future. Our rules and guidelines on our servers and are plain and simple, if a players wish not to abide by these rules or continue to argue with our Edgegamers guidelines for each server they have the freedom to leave and play on other servers as all players do. That is plain and simple as all servers across the board of BC 2.

Look this topic is getting way crazy,
Nin-Ha the rules are plain and simple and has been mention if you have issue with our Egdegamers rules set get on vent and talk to an advisor or leadership about this issue.

Now that you have clarified that the map is Valparaiso that cliff falls under our exploit rule. Also that cliff does have plenty of cover from anything except a mortar strike. All you have to do is step back and crouch.

The only exceptions to our exploit rule are the lighthouse on that same map and the windmills on heavy metal. Leadership has considered all the spots and determined that only these two will be exceptions.

As has been said before if you want anymore information you really need to jump on vent and talk to a leadership member. Just find the BC2 rooms (they are near the top).

I will be happy to clarify and specific rulings in Vent. Just send me a pm there, and I will speak to you if I'm around. If not, you may send me a pm via the forums, and I'll set a time. I don't see any further constructive discussion coming from this thread, so I'm locking it.
