Well, recently one of my 5970 cards just got a code 43 error, and from what I've looked up online, it's basically dead... (Unless someone here has a fix..)

My dad would be able to get me a 6990 and I was just curious if I should keep my other 5970, which works fine, and use the 6990 with CrossFire? Will this help even a little bit, or will it just cripple it?

not sure if you can even crossfire the two cards..........i don't think you can. They are two completely different cards pretty much.

I would just take the 6990 and use it...........btw did i tell you that ur a goddamn lucky b**** lmao

Keep the other 5970 as a backup......or give it to me or sell it but i prob wouldn't just incase your dad could get in trouble for doing stuff like that

why not keep your working 5970 as your only card? For the most part buying the 6990 would only be worth it for bragging rights..

if you want to (or your dad) spend that much on bragging rights than more power to you.

My advice: I'm pretty sure you can't crossfire those two, but I would use the 6990 and just hold on to your other one just in case.

CrossFireX™ can only combine cards of the same series.

Example:
AMD 6990 can only combine with a 6990, 6970, or 6950.
AMD 6870 can only combine with a 6870 or 6850.
The 5970 can combine with the 5970, 5870, or 5850 because they are considered the same series.
