Lag Lag Go Away!

Ok straight to the point...any online game i play i get the same lag spike/s lasting anywhere from 3 seconds to 20 seconds. At first i thought it was the servers causing this but no one lags when i lag i seem to be the only one asking "did anyone just lag?"...So if you got any idea what may be causing this lag please please please please please help a brother out i cant stand lagging all the time

well unless you are trying to run at crazy high setitngs your computer hardware shoudl be able to run source fine - i hate to say btu my guess si that there is a 90% chance that it has to do with the internet before it interers your computer.

ISP, bad router, etc.

How often is the problem as in, how frequent between spikes? You could try doing a speed test when its really bad and if it comes back low you can complain to your cable company.

I was thinking it was my router too...where can i get a cheap one?
(wonder if Comcast will gimme a new one for free?)

Oh and the spikes are really in no order...it lags when it wants to lag completely random but the fact that they occur so often makes it clear that its not the server. I'm guessing in a hour of game play ill get anywhere between 15 - 25 spikes each lasting anywhere from like 5-20 seconds (ive never actually timed the spike). Not enough to make me play bad but just enough to piss me off

And last time i gave Comcast a call i ended up cussing out some unfortunate old lady so i don't think they'll take my call

no they will take your call but they store that in their computer systsem so they wont go the extra mile to help you out. On the bright side, cable companies dont go the extra mile for anyone. ... that was the bright side? : ( ......

Anyways, before spending money, you can disconnect your router and plug one of your computers directly into the cable modem and see if the lag goes away. I also stil think you should wait untill the lag is happening consistantly and take a speed test. Its not uncommon for the cable company to have internal problems as well.

Comcast will not be buying you a new router, they only provide modems and they wont even help you diagnose router problems over the phone because they dont support them. to get any help they will ask you to remove the router. If you need aq new one though they arent that much, you can get them at local stores like circuit city, staples, best buy and probably some places near you that are not near me. Or you can buy one online and have it shipped.
