After the recent death of my turtle beaches, I've decided to get some new headphones for my upcoming birthday... I've been looking at..

If there's any other you have suggestions for or which of these you would suggest mostly... Go ahead and tell me, since most of them are on sale atm. Try to make it around 200 dollars, a bit more or less, nothing like 250+, I was going to get me an Astro MLG headset, but it is indeed 250 and I don't feel like buying it.... Halp me por favor!

Edit: I was looking at the Megalodon since it has 7.1, not sure how much of a difference that really is, but I do have a sound card that can support that as well.
 
I had the Razer headphones that were 1 step cheaper than the Megalodons, and the mic gave out on me after a week, and it wasn't very good quality. I'm not gonna get Razer headphones again. I got Creative Tactic Alpha 3D Sound Blaster after those and I love them, they are incredibly comfortable, and the quality is great. For $60 they were worth it.
 
I'm been looking at reviews on the Megalodons and they say they have a mic problem, but it's easily fixed with a software update.
 
My problem was a faulty wiring problem. I'm not gonna trust that on my ears :3.
 
So you don't want another pair of Turtle Beach's?

If you're willing to spend that much, how about a Sennheiser?

Well the only pair I would want from Turtle Beach would be the HPA 2 and they're out of stock. And I was looking at the Sennheiser's, but I havn't heard much good on the PC350, and the PC360 is too high.

Well, there is the Turtle Beach HPX. It doesn't come with the amplifier though,
but the true 5.1 audio connectors are 2nd to last on the list of that webpage.
It's the same headset, but with different adapters/connectors.
If you want to spend $200, I would recommend getting the Astro MixAmp with
the HPX adapter if you're interested in what it provides.

Sennheiser makes very high quality products with crystal-clear audio.
You can look up every review, even though they are expensive, they are
durable.

Even though their gaming market isn't much to look at, the rest of what
they provide proves they know audio.


A few things to note when buying a headset:
  • No headset can actually have a true "noise canceling microphone".
  • Currently, there are no "true" 7.1 surround sound headsets, they are
    all virtual.
  • Nearly every game in existence does not support 7.1 audio.
  • Do you want USB or jack? USB usually provides its own audio card
    while jack
    requires your PC to have one.
  • Video reviews are more than likely going to tell the truth with their
    opinion of a
    product. Most are not paid and they are not looking to get sponsored.

The logitech G35 is a great headset for surround sound and is ridiculously powerful...
I personally use a Plantronics GameCom 377, it's a solid headset and is stereo, though surround sound in headphones is gimmicky and in game or out of game you will probably not tell the difference. I would not recommend turtle beach but I would recommend the Creative Soundblaster Arena which is made by Creative who make the best gaming sound cards on the market and made their money mostly in audio. I would recommend checking them out.
 
I'd prefer to have a jack, but I can use a usb as well, either works for me. Noise Cancelling is fine if I don't have it or not, as long as I can't hear my brother being stupid. And yeah, after the original post I'd prefer 5.1 since they seem to be "cheaper."

Does the Razer Megalodon's... When it's in the 7.1 setting, does that include 5.1?

1: The noise canceling I was referring to was the microphone, not ear pieces.

2: 7.1 "virtual" audio works sort of like this... It has a the same amount of
speakers 5.1 does, but it produces extra audio to make it seem like there is
more speakers. So you have sound from more directions than usual.

As for support, yes, any 7.1 audio will work with any game with 5.1.

Also keep in mind, all of the headsets that support 7.1 use USB; If they were
to use a jack you would have true 7.1 surround sound.

The reviews are amazing, even for the lowest end stuff at $35

Do yourself a favor and get the mixamp seperatly and get a pair of adh700 with the zalman clipon mic. The only "gaming" headset i could recommend is the steelseries siberia.

For what it's worth i have heard most of the gaming headsets out there and none compare to the setup is recommended not to mention they are overpriced.

I am a headphone junkie and spend way too much time over at head-fi.org

I would be glad to help if you like. Are you only using it for gaming? Any music?
