I am giving away a copy of Audiosurf or Killingfloor!

First person to win gets to choose their prize!

Ah, but what are the rules, you might ask? How do I enter this contest, or indeed, win it?

For that, you will have to go ask Alice.

Happy hunting!

I was already in the process of searching for it. I was waiting for it to load while I posted that message ;)

Some people seem to be having trouble.

I'll give one hint, and that's it for now. The image on that profile? Try making it a zip file.

That's an image of the Russian Woodpecker...

I've done a lot of research of it in the past. Here is an article from Wikipedia.

The Russian Woodpecker was a notorious Soviet signal that could be heard on the shortwave radio bands worldwide between July 1976 and December 1989. It sounded like a sharp, repetitive tapping noise, at 10 Hz, giving rise to the "Woodpecker" name.

At least two people are close. Very close.

Consider this the eGO "potato hunt".

Oh, and if the zip doesn't work, try 7zip.

We have one winner.

Oberst has won Killing Floor!

Now then, Audiosurf is still in play!

I think I'll have to open this to the general public soon. It amazes me that only one person has gotten it right so far.

All you need is really on http://www.edgegamers.org/forums/member.php?u=40498

You already know that you need to save the image on there, http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3800167/woodpecker.jpg , and change the .jpg extension into a .zip.

You just need to find a password, and figure out which file in there holds the secret. Find the secret and win. Hint- it's an e-mail address.

Cakeman has won.

Here is an explanation of the contest.

First, the image needed to be remade into a zip file. This was hinted at via my remark of saving the image, the fact that the image is much larger in size then a normal picture, and the "zip it" video posted by alice.

Next, a password was needed. Alice's occupation is listed as 160141163163167157162144147162141144151165163.

Eight is enough, not liking binary or hex, having only 8 fingers, and all your number base were hints. This was coded in base-8 form, octal programming language.

Translated, it reads "passwordgradius".

Using that grants access to the zip archive. There are three audio files in there. Two are remixes of Alice in Wonderland. The third is labelled "Russian Woodpecker" and appears to be high-tone bird calls.

However, using the hints "Audio is so clear I can almost see it." and using foobar2000 (or any other player that has the tool), you could play the sound and view the spectrogram to find the hidden e-mail to contact to claim the prize.

Well done.

This was an epic contest! I got to the files in the zip but I got lazy.

Good job cakeman!
