GPU's... Which one is better?

So im wondering how i determine which graphic cards are better then others... in general...

Im soon getting a new computer, and im wondering if there're some parts from my current PC i should put in my new PC. My current PC has a GTX 295... see below picture

On my new pc, i can get this put in:

nVidia GeForce GTX570 1280MB GDDR5 RAM PCI-E

or I can replace it with this:

AMD Radeon HD6950 1GB

Or should i take that out and put in my GTX 295?
 
570 is way better then the 6950 i believe the 5970 is even better then the 6950 the 6000 series of ATI is different architecture and not as powerful as the 5000 series it shows in the prices too. I have a 470 and max out everything i play smoothly if that gives you a point of reference bc2 is about 75-90 fps dx11 maxed and tf2 is 300fps on max settings. Bc2 probably pushes it the hardest. Hope this helps. Be mindful that Nvidia tend to run hot so if you have heat issues go with ATI
 
GTX 295 is a good card. It is getting a little older, but that does not mean it is outdated. While it can't do dx11, that might not be that important for you. Depends on the games and resolutions you play. However, "upgrading" to a 570 or 6950 would not be much of an upgrade going from a gtx 295. I would hold onto that for now and save up when you actually do need an upgrade. And no, a 570 is not much better than a 6950. I would take a 6950 over a gtx 570 due to the overclock potential and better multi card scaling for future upgrade. 6970 is priced to compete with the 570 and it is the better card imo. But in the end, it seems more like upgrading your cpu/mobo/ram should suffice for you for now.
 
they (570/295) are the same, assuming that SLI is enabled

they both have 480 cores, but the higher effiecency of G200 is offset by SLI scaling issues.

6950 is a bit slower than the 570

As has been stated, neither one of those cards would be a huge upgrade from a GTX 295. Personally, I would hold off on an upgrade until your current card ages a bit more.

AMD played around with the naming this generation. The 6950/70 is in the same performance bracket of last generation's 58XX series. The reason the 5970 is more powerful (and more expensive) is because it's a dual-GPU card. This generation's equivalent to the 5970 is the 6990.

Either way, the cards (570 & 6950) aren't too far off in terms of performance. The 570 has a slight edge at stock, but the 6950 can clock a bit higher. After you unlock the 6950's locked shaders it effectively pushes out 6970 performance at a much lower cost. Overall it depends on what you want. If you aren't going to overclock (and you can get them at similar prices), I'd go with the 570. If you're looking for the best bang-for-your-buck in this performance bracket, I'd go with an unlocked/OCed 6950.
 
The best bang for your buck right now is a 2GB 6950 unlocked/oc'd at 6970 speeds.

Honestly in your shoes I would stick with my 295 and focus on the rest of the rig. Re-evaluate when BF3 comes out. Next gen cards are always coming and you probably have plenty of gpu power already.

I personally prefer Nvidia. I have never had good luck with ATI cards EVER. That is just my personal experience though. Nvidia has never failed me and runs everything. I currently have two GTX 470's running in SLI. :D
