Linux, if you were using, what distro

and how would you play dod:s? There are lots of ways to skin that cat and although the OS may be free the ability to use windows programs can cost. I have used wine and have played pokerstars fine. Wine also ran a few other items well but other items didn't install well so running them was impossible. I am going to check a linux gamers site later, but I was hoping someone here has played around with this. Also I love the drawing tools in linux and would love to import some of them into my maps. making your own textures saves time when you want what you want... !lol

I have a friend that played portal, i can ask him. Ubuntu definately.

HOWEVER

if for any reason you disagree then thens fine, many distros are equal good and similar. but for the love of all that is holy STAY away from fedora. I hate hate hate it so much i neevr want to see red hat ever again.

Just saw this thread. I am using Ubuntu right now. I haven't tried installing steam or DOD on it yet. I heard CS:S woks great with Wine or Cedega so who knows maybe DOD will to. I will let you know how it goes.

I installed kubuntu today the latest version and while updating after installing it had an error. I am not sure if it is hardware related or not. The drive I am using is a spare.

Ubuntu for ram that is more than 128mb
if not, i recommended DSL (damn small linux)

I have kubuntu running and it will show flash for my kids. I have wine on there and I dl steam... now to execute the installer so I can use it....I have done this before but this version looks sweeter. If this works I may grab a sata hdd for linux.

There is a linux client for teamspeak but none for ventrilo yet. But from what I have read so far it seems that Steam/Half-Life 2 /CS:S/DOD:S all run pretty well in wine and cedaga. I need to upgrade my ram if I want to run it though. Maybe this weekend.

I'm running DOD:s perfectly fine under Kubuntu 7.04. I used to run DOD and CS under several different OS's back in the day without issue. I've always gotten better framerates too
