Windows 7 Service Pack 1

Ok so Microsoft just recently released SP1 for Windows 7. My question to either Phobus or Reflex or whoever has updated to SP1 is do you notice any changes? Im sure most of it is security measures, but I would like to know what im gonna be downloading before I really d/l it. 1 thing I really dont like is that Windows updates likes to install updates w/o my authorization or notice. Classic example, I woke up 1 morning in the process of trying to wake up & get ready for work. I usually leave my system going & listen to music as I fall asleep & as I wake up. Didnt hear it as I woke up that morning & found out that Windows was @ the sign in screen. Only thing that popped up in my mind was that Windows installed some recent updates. Needless to say, after a brief wait for Windows to load the desktop, it did indeed install some updates. Now I have more than 1 important update waiting for my approval & 1 optional update as well.

You can change Windows update to "download and wait for you to install them" or "Tell me their are updates and ask if you want to download them".
 
Ya thanks for reminding me. I finally figured out how to do that, but totally forgot that I figured that out. My fault on that part. Anyways, do you have Win 7 SP1 installed? If so, let me know of your thoughts.
 
This service pack is mostly a roll-up of all the past updates into on package. You're not going to notice anything big.
 
I haven't used Windows in a while. I've been using Ubuntu 11.04 recently. It's a lot better, in my opinion. Much less resource heavy, and it just works (so far. there are some issues, but they're easily fixed).

I switched to Ubuntu when Vista was the newest.
But now I'm back to Windows since 7 came out, very little resource usage in
comparison to its predecessor.

I guess the main reason I still use Windows today is because nearly every
game supports it only.
 
Let's see here, my copy (which I haven't made any major tweaks to) uses around 500-800MB when idling, and perhaps 1.1-1.2GB when heavy multitasking (browsing, coding, running said code, listening to music, Skyping reflex, etc). It's quite impressive, really.
 
my stripped w7 copy uses less than 200mb of ram.

too bad it isn't usable for anything other than superpi/pifast

Stripped Vista uses like 250mb, not that bad if you ask me.
 
phobus & reflex, im gonna have 2 listen in on ur convos 1 of these days (mainly so i can get an idea of the kinda techie stuff u guys talk bout, thats if u do talk bout that).
 
Lol. We talk about a lot of things tech related. And a lot of things non-tech related, too.
