Ok so In case some of you haven't noticed there have been alot of people spamming and crashing vent as well as bc2 servers my suggestion is that we put on Pw on the vent servers and only give it out to ppl who we know are trustworthily members oh and I can't use my headset anymore because the spamming ruined my sound as well as my speakers

Asuryan,

We advertise ourselves as being an open community and having an open vent. Passwording the ventrilo rooms defeats the entire purpose of being an open community.

Well can we please do something about the spammers Ive wasted over $400 alone on multiple headsets as well as headphones that have been ruined by spammers

Well I agree with both points on this. We are an open community with an open vent but, the spammers are getting out of hand. One idea I had was keep the division lobbies, general rooms and recruiting rooms unlocked, but place a PW on the Division rooms that are used for gaming etc.

Yeah, the only way the headset is gonna get ruined is if you have the volume up too high and blow the drivers.

I suggest not a password on the channels, but the vent itself. We can still be an open community, but when somebody joins they just get the password to the vent. If somebody that normally doesn't join the vent wants to get in all he needs to do is talk to someone, and the person who brought him in could be held partly responsible for their actions. We can be an open community in game but I would think having a little more private of a vent wouldn't hurt much in the long run.

I never have my volume real high and my vent volume normalization is set and yet the spammers have still damn near ruined my sound card. it has locked up my vent before and caused so much residual noise in my system Ive had to restart my computer to get it to stop.

That's pretty...weird. That's never happened to me (never even close to anything like that) and I've never heard of it happening lol.

It sounds like a good idea to have locked channels, but in reality the spammers are less of a nuisance than having locked channels would be. Firstly, there would need to be a password that gets disseminated to all members who play BC2. People will be constantly PMing members and leadership asking for the passwords. Alternatively, spammers will ask for the passwords. Once the password has been given to someone who should have it, a new password would need to be generated on each channel. Then we would have to start telling everyone that password.

Some people would want to hop in and play and wouldn't be able to because of the locked channels. Also, this decision is above our heads and would have to be made at the Council/CommMgr level.

It's just not very feasible. =/

:O I just mute them idiots :thumbup1:

:P Other option if this is possible find certain administrators in shifts that are in vent generally playing in game rooms in a 24 hours period and if possible assign them rights to kick / ban only if this is possible.
I not sure if this possible in ventrilo. I am not up to speed on assigning rights through this type of program.

Just a thought :)

Headsets get ruined when spammers use a soundboard to quickly therefore making to many sounds at one time which pretty much cause the sound in headsets to blow out quicker

The situation we had last night where we had a spammer come in, say he was going to crash vent and then do it is easily remedied by putting a password on the channel at that specific time.

If someone was interested in getting the channel pw, they could of PM'ed one of us.

If we recognize them, we give it to them. If not, tell them to hop in game and ask for it.

There's not much you can do to prevent spammers, except kicking them and banning them.

To add onto what many other people in this thread have said, we're an open community. We like members to be able to hop into Ventrilo whenever and start gaming with us.

We keep our Ventrilo information on the left side of our website, (http://edgegamers.org/forums/cmps_index.php?pageid=ventrilo) so anyone can come in whenever they would like without difficulty.

It seems there would be no reason for there to be a Vent PW because they would possibly just put it on the website as well.

As for the person who brought the other person into Vent, you should not be responsible for what they might do. They can seem like the nicest person in the world, but might go spewing off curses left and right in Vent and get banned.

What I said above also applies to recruiting. You're not responsible for your recruits actions.

Advisors and up do look for spammers and notice them. I can't say Ive ever had a headset or anything blow do to a spammer.. having normalization on fixed that.. and if they get too bad my vent crashed which isnt a bad thing. It crashes and it protects that way. TBH I get a laugh out of spammers b/c they aren't as annoying as they'd like to be. I just let it roll off my back. I for one am glad we have an open vent to allow our regular pubs that support our servers to come in and talk with us :D

Anyways.. this convo is pretty done. <3
