Ok so I just came to this website for this little rant. I play on the Dod Strand server a lot and basically the american team sucks. Its completely unbalanced between axis and allies. Just for a random example the round wins right now while im on the server are 6 ally wins compared to 30 axis wins...
Ok you guys probably wont give much of a crap but I think it drives a lot of people to leave the server when you continually lose over and over. Half the time I can barely make it off the beach let alone when theres a "beach party"
What I think will fix it:
American team needs more snipers allowed. The two right now do not cover the amount needed. Usually one is taken up by someone sucking and is pretty much wasted then the other one is working his ass off just so we can get off the beach. Not to mention we need one to clear field and one to clear bg when theyre dug in.
No respawn time for american team. ok historically the american team gets raped by the nazis on dday but the americans could overwhelm them. so how is it fair having equal teams then? First you have to run all the way off the beach then clear to where youre gonna plant.
I think these two little ajustments will make it a lot better and help to keep people on the american team from rage quitting at how unbalanced it is.

I didnt really put much thought into how to fix it but if you guys would actually consider changing it ill think about it more.

Before I begin I apologize for the wall of text but it is very helpful in my opinion. Also I wish to state that teamwork and communication are everything to true success!

I can say with some degree of certainty that the number of a particular class will not change. Now as to snipers "sucking" here are a few simple solutions to the issue. More often than not there are no machine gunners on allies. MGs are great at providing suppressing fire; just look at the MG42 from the axis positions, when one sets up almost everybody sits behind cover and waits for the fire to stop then they'll advance. Two machine guns placed strategically across the beach can cover all positions any axis player may set up, this provides perfect cover fire if you simple spray across your field of fire and snap to an enemy's head when you see one. If your playing allies I strongly recommend using the M1 Garand to get off the beach as it is an excellent rifle with good accuracy and iron sights. You should be able to pull off two shots relatively quickly after aiming down the sights, you fire two because your first one might miss. Simply do that as you advance up the beach, hide behind tank traps zoom in fire twice, move up. More often than not your target will duck in cover or die allowing you and others to advance. When you get off the beach you can probably find an MP40 or an STG, both of which are excellent weapons. If you decide against the M1 the assault class has smoke, very useful on the beach either as a distraction or cover, and you can most likely get a nice lucky head shot on the enemy. The bar is an acceptable supplement to the .30 cal if you can't get your hands on one and allows for increased mobility making it harder for snipers to locate you if you reposition after a kill. Pick up any sniper on the ground if you feel they aren't doing enough, and if they aren't dieing then use one of the other options. THIS DOES NOT MEAN BLOCK THEIR VIEW, HARASS THEM, OR HINDER THEIR EFFORTS IN ANY WAY!

I have personally gotten to big gun in under 2 minutes from round start, I have done this with no help from anybody and took no damage from anybody. Push up along the beach from the far left or far right, blow the shingle, then wait for middle to be blown. Now play tactically, if you know your going in alone and you know your facing overwhelming numbers try sneaking around the enemy instead of confronting them directly. Blow open middle, rush the trench jump out and get to the radio tower as quickly as possible and hide in cover for a few seconds, this tells you if you have been spotted as many bullets will fly towards you. If you have been spotted kill the guy shooting you as quickly as possible and continue to the trench behind tower and head to big gun tunnel. Once you hit the tunnel do not stop for anything, run as fast as you can to the steam room, the enemy is likely to exit their spawn from the tunnels and running into one or two of them can really hinder your plan. After that do NOT take the elevator up to big gun if it is down, it is safer to use the ladder and surprise any enemies up there if you can. I say this every time I am in game...SECURE THE GUN BEFORE YOU PLANT! What good is planting if three enemies are right outside? If you have done as I suggest then you should blow up big gun relatively easy. If you have not been spotted at any time during this and you see several enemies DO NOT ENGAGE! This will draw your attention to you and while it may help in the short term causing enemies to pull off the beach and attempt to disarm an objective will take longer and allow more men to get off the beach. After the objective explodes, you can go kill as many enemies as you want. This method is by no means a substitute to teamwork, but it often helps the team in the long run.

Now the reason I have replied with a wall of text is simple, there are so many ways to succeed on the allies without the need to change anything on the server if you simply try different things, if one thing continuously doesn't work try approaching it from a different angle. Analyze the situation and then proceed.

Just as a third-party (CS:S Gamer) who enjoys DOD, I would like to say that,
I feel that our DOD servers have well balanced maps.
Every once and a while you will have unbalanced teams.
Not too much to do about it, However, we can encourage players to even the teams/classes out. I dont think that adding more slots/classes will make a better game play.

Our servers are pretty popular (most of them)
And we dont want to make any large change that will compromise that.

Thanks for your input.

Actually...the Americans didn't get their butts kicked on d-day. The Nazis weren't really expecting us to hit the beaches we did.

As unbalanced as it seems, as soon as Americans get into the base it is virtually impossible for the axis to defend. You gotta be looking into every corner once the Americans are in. IMO adding more snipers will just encourage beach camping and instead of having 2 people never get off the beach you'll have the x amount of snipers. Personally there shouldn't be any snipers... Should be an mg war, but oh well.

Thanks for quick replies guys,
About the Americans getting their butts kicked, I meant Im not complaining about having a horrible kill/death ratio, I realize that they were out in the open with mg's unloading on them.

And Ravage, I would definitely like to have you on my team lol But all the examples you gave I have tried. Usually just spamming the MG from the beach doesnt help much other than have a sniper's head popout and shoot me before I can spray their direction. And If I can make it off the beach that is about exactly what I do to make it to BG by myself. Mainly what I was ranting about is the fact that a lot of the time I cant even get off the beach. And thats with throwing smoke, sprinting then resting, and zigzagging while sprinting. It just seems a little one sided with the scores being so off balance.:facewall:

the americans did get their butts kicked on d-day. on another note, the americans were perhaps just as unprepared for the invasion as the germans. The main reason the germans lost the beaches is because of incompetence at the highest ranks of the German command (i.e. Rommel being away from the front, panzer columns being held in reserve due to hitler sleeping, etc), not allied cunning.

Back on the real topic, we will not be changing the map or the weapon reserve slots. Our strand server has been climbing in rank steadily and is now within the top 50 servers, meaning that our server popularity is rising, not falling.

Like any other map, teamwork and supreme communications are often the key to victory. You might find it tougher to win as allies, but that is the point of the map. If you want a more balanced map, play a different one. I have played strand and seen allies roll over and over. All that is required is 1 decent sniper and an aggressive team.

Communication is key. You have to coordinate efforts with your teammates. Get Bill over there to toss some smoke on the left flank, get George to hang back and provide sniper cover, and get Martha to set her MG up behind some cover and try and suppress the other team. If you're on a team that has people utilizing mic's for teamwork and strategy, you can push on through. As said above, it becomes very difficult for the Axis to defend once the Allies have pushed through the bunkers and have made it inside the base. However, skill level is usually a factor, yes, teams sometimes do get stacked. However, if teams become unbalanced, an admin usually asks for a few to balance up the team. Generally, people have no problem balancing up the teams.

I call it luck

You're mixing up the battle of Normandy and d day.

i couldnt agree more...ive been on allies many times and rolled the axis team with several minutes to spare...as long as there is a good sniper to keep the machine gunners down, there is no reason allies cant get in there and shake things up a bit...

The Americans got their butts kicked on Omaha beach where German resistance was heaviest. However, Utah beach didn't necessarily result in huge amounts of casualties, especially when compared to Omaha.

Anyways, agreed with what the others have been saying... communications, strategy and aggressiveness are key.

10 casualties/150k invading force. 6% isn't getting your butt kicked.

Also not all were Americans about 6k of the casualties were.

Remember, back then war was thought differently than today. Losing 6% of a force was nothing. The whole operation was planned pretty extensively, and there were many other operations leading up to (operation fortitude). Don't know why people insist that we got our butts "kicked." The Pacific is another story, but on d day we hardly got our butts kicked.

Not exactly, although everyone's muddying things up a little here.

Field Marshal Erwin Rommel was placed in charge of the Normandy defense after he was flown out of Africa. However, he was not given all that he needed to REALLY do his job and defend the place, because he didn't have enough supplies. Rommel wanted to have multiple panzer divisions ready and waiting for the allies, but he was unable to get permission to move them, as Hitler micromanaged the entire war.

Hitler was also asleep when Operation Overlord hit Normandy, and refused to allow the tanks to move towards the front lines, preferring to keep them in reserve for the attack he believed was coming at Pas de Calais, further west of Normandy.

The Allies had set up a massive propaganda campaign to make the Nazis think they were coming at Calais; they had false radio traffic, huge numbers of wooden tanks and fake tents at a "staging site", and General George S. Patton was sent to that area to "train his men", as the Nazis believed that Patton would be the man to lead the invasion himself.

However, the attack came at Normandy instead. While the Americans did take large losses (let's face it guys; losing 6% of your men is still a loss you'd rather not have), particularly on Omaha Beach, they took more losses in the hedgerow battles of Normandy itself as they moved forward to push towards Germany.

Patton would go on to lead the Third Army across Europe, attacking further south in France, making the incredible "turn out of combat and move 120 miles in a snowstorm on Christmas" maneuver to relieve Bastogne during the Battle of the Bulge. He also spearheaded the invasion into Germany and got into the deep south, including Munich, but was stopped from pushing to Berlin by Eisenhower, as the Soviets "needed" to take the capital city.

Now that the history lesson is over, let's get back to the topic: Strand. (and yes, I do read these threads, even if they are about servers I hate! ;) )

6% of your invading force to secure beach heads to invade Europe is nothing. 10k casualties is a lot of men yes, but in the overall picture it was -nothing- and can hardly be classified as a butt kicking. Butt kicking = what the Germans did to the Soviets.

Sorry, back on topic now--

More snipers in strand = more campers = less objectives being fulfilled = fail.

Why are we argueing about this????? Americans won the war, Htler "supposedly" killed himself, and we all live on to eat another hot dog on the 4th of July. Yay America!

I dont normally play strand but I would like to say that the old dod beach landing was a better map than the new dod, I used to play that regularly as it was more interesting and I believe fairer than the new one.
