Good cheap balisong knife?

Do we have any guys who have a butterfly knife? Can anyone recommend a good first knife that is fairly light and under 50 dollars? I have rather average hands so I can't handle big knives too well.

I think we have a weapon rule, but I just want to flip it around.

You can try Benchmade, Spyderco, or Coldsteel.

I can't tell you exactly what knife to get, but they're three well known and respected knife manufacturers. So, take a look around on their websites. I personally would recommended that you wait and save up some more money until you can purchase a higher quality balisong. Benchmade's can run up to $200, but they'll last you a lifetime.

I in no way have the money to buy any of those right now. Maybe my birthday.

I would suggest you wait until you can pick up a good quality one.

You don't want to buy a $50 balisong and then have it break.

Do you have any experience with the Benchmade 51? Been looking at it for a while. Beautiful knife.

I've heard it's a good knife. Personally, I'd recommend a BM52. It's just personal preference, though.

The BM52 has a green-ish looking color to it which some people may not like.

Let me ask you a couple questions.

Have you done balisong before?
If you start do you think its something in a few months you are going to be like Ehhh not my thing?

Those are the two big questions. If you have not done it before and think maybe you will stop here in a few months, Just get you a cheapy and try it out. Hell I have went to Nirvana and got me a couple 15$ dollars knives , now I am getting me a 300$ . You don't want to spend alot of money on something that may not be for you!

Cheers!!

I got my first balisong at www.bladeops.com . It was some cheap piece for about 12 bucks if I recall correctly... Good starting knife for just practicing flipping etc.. You can also find training balisongs there too, good luck brah.

I had a BM42 for about a year until I lost it, or it got stolen, or something along the lines of that. I really wish I still had it especially because it isn't made anymore. And you can't go wrong with Benchmade, but don't get a cheap one, its just not worth it.

Why a knife? Why not a gun? Get yourself a good pistol, practice with it.

Duke USMC, My grandpa was a marine, I have his war pistol.

There are no butterfly knives under $100 that will last. They just don't exist. I went through a dozen cheap knives in just a couple months before buying my BM42, which has lasted over 2 years so far.

A pistol is considerably more expensive than the price range that he wants, not to mention the fact that he is either 15 or 16 and so depending on which state he lives in, he would have to be 18 (or in the case of my state, Virginia, 21) in order to own one.

forget about a pistol if you want a really cheap option. get yourself a Mosin-Nagant! Grab your parent and/or legal guardian and take the to the nearest gun show and you'll probably find one for around 100 bucks. the ammo is liek 70 bucks for a thousand rounds. that may seem expensive but its actually a really good deal. plus you would own a piece of world war two history. I got mine with matching serial #'s on all the parts, and original combat kit/sling for 99$ and everything was factory refurbished.

and you cant technically own a firearm until your 18 (in Kansas) BUT my dad "owns" it right now.

btw you cant hit a penny at 200 yards with a knife;)
or with my mosin nagant

I have 2 shotguns, a glock, and 10/22.

I love my Glock 17, and anyone who says 9mm isn't that much, I'd never want to get shot with mine. :glare:

I think I may just go ahead and buy like a 15 dollar one to screw around with, so that on my birthday I have a better case for getting a good one.

Speaking of old guns, the two shotguns were given me by my grandfather. Both 16 GA, one pump and one bolt action.

Make sure you know your state laws. full size balisongs are illegal in some states (ex. Kansas)
(taken from wikipedia)

* the knife is illegal to carry in California if blade length exceeds two inches as with other automatic knives, they are legal to own if kept in your home.[citation needed]
* There are legal restrictions on gravitational knives in Kansas.
* In New York, the butterfly knife has been determined not to be a gravity knife.[7]
* In Oregon, it is illegal to carry a concealed Balisong.[8]
* In Utah, Balisong knives are legal as long as they are not concealed.[citation needed]
* In Virginia, the butterfly knife is legal for conceal and open carrying according to state law, although localities can have additional knife laws and restrictions.

# Butterfly knife trainers feature a special blunt and unsharpened "blade", and are legal in areas where butterfly knives are not.

It is illegal in my state. I don't really care bc it will never leave the house. I will probably get it delivered to the neighbor that lives next to my camp and pick it up when we get there.
