Sony finally owns up about why PSN has been down...

This became so bad that the government got involved.

"Affected individuals should also be provided with sufficient insurance to protect them from the possible financial consequences of identity theft," Blumenthal said.

I haven't received anything yet, but I really haven't bought anything aside from demos.
 
I'm really glad I didn't update my info after my credit card expired & I had to get a new one....I'm still changing my password when psn goes back up. I wonder if they'll compensate us for the down time like Microsoft did a couple of years ago when xbox live went down for a couple of weeks?

This was definitely a thought out team work effort. These people who hacked Sony can be instant million years, they can sell the CC info for a lot, sell lists for telemarketers, sell the accounts. Why couldn't it be the X BOX
 
I like how in a possibly dire situation with identity theft, people like to pop in and just lol about how the Xbox is better.

A lot of the chatter about this is on other websites is so childish. It's like all these children want people to have their credit history ruined because they chose to not play on an Xbox.
 
I feel this is kind of strange, Sony messed up but there's no confirmation that credit card information was stolen, yet people are throwing huge fits. But when credit card companies and other businesses get hacked, the reaction is a bit more mellow overall.

Not defending Sony as I'm unhappy that my PS3 is useless to me now, but it's just strange.

Well the thing about the credit card info that is getting people steamed is that they have not confirmed or denied that the hackers got the information. By now they should know if they have or haven't.

To every one that has to deal with getting a new CC I can feel for them. My bank cancelled all my cards because they were being used over seas... Week before I left I told them I would be going over seas. Yet they still cancelled them. Pissed I had to call them and see if they could send me a new card. They said sorry and would send me a new card (At the time I had zero money and was stuck over seas by my self)

I give them the hotel I'm staying at. But wait... They can only mail the card to the address I signed up with them at...
I some how got a friend to wire me some money so I could get a flight back to the states.

The day I landed I went straight to the bank and closed all my accounts and with drew all my money from the bank. Told my dad about what had happened and he along with my mother withdrew all there money and closed both of there accounts with the bank.
 
I have a feeling that no one's card was stolen. Sony stated that all card information was encrypted, and personal information such as address, was not, but was behind a security wall that was compromised. They've also stated while they cannot rule out the possibility, there is no evidence leading to the suggestion that the attackers obtained any card information.

That's a good point but I was thinking about something.

It didn't hit me when I read about international governments investigating this matter. I didn't think about it until I just read that the FBI, Homeland Security, and 22 state Attorney Generals are now involved in the investigation.

We are not being told the whole story. Why else would so many agencies be getting involved? If you have used a credit/debit card with PSN I would highly recommend keeping close track of it. I would not rule out canceling your card at this point either.

They have been very careful in their words, in that they have not admitted or denied at this point that credit card information was stolen. If it comes out in a few weeks differently...

Either way some lawyers are about to hit bank.

You're stupid because you wanted a PS3? I'm sorry, but that sounds like you are accusing Sony of hacking themselves. This could have happened to any corporation. The culprits behind this obviously have lots of know-how to hack into an infrastructure such as the PSN. Could Sony have made their infrastructure more tight? Perhaps, but that's not something you can predict, or plan for.

"I'm sure someone will figure out our security tomorrow. Better come up with some new encryption."
 
So, after making my "playing my xbox and having fun" comment, I now have the red ring of death.


Karma is alive and well in my world. LOL
