Help with RAM timings.

I just purchased this RAM from Newegg.

Patriot Viper II Sector7 DDR3 2000/PC16000 RAM @ 1.65V

the details state:

Cas Latency: 9
Timing: 9-11-9-27

I'm running an EVGA i790 Digital motherboard.

I am trying to set the timings and i've got a lot of settings.

tCL(CAS Latency) <-- i figured that one out.
tRCD <-- guessing this is 9
tRP <-- guessing this is 11
tRAS <-- guessing this is 9
Command per Clock(CMD)

tRRD
tRC
tWR
tWTR
tFAW
tREF
tRFC

where do i set the "27" value? I guess i dont understand the format of the timings specification. If anyone would like to educate me, i'd be happy to learn!
 
The 9 at the beginning is the tCL (or CAS)

The other numbers:

  • tRCD <-- 11
  • tRP <-- 9
  • tRAS <-- 27
 
Thanks. Having some strange behavior again with the system hanging when i put in the 2nd stick of the ram - was using just 1 in there to set timings and verify each stick was working correctly on its own.

It starts to POST, displays:

EM64T CPU

then just freezes. No keyboard. Have to hard power down.

I just tried clearing CMOS, we will see how that turns out. Any other ideas?
 
Sometimes motherboards require the 1st and 3rd slots to be filled if it's only
2 sticks (Although I'm not entirely sure about triple channel).

Could you provide what motherboard you have? (Such as brand/model #)


I know someone here will have an answer for you.

As far as I know...

If you get a triple channel kit for a dual channel motherboard, the RAM will
only operate as single channel.

I don't think there could be a compatibility problem other than it's not
going to be dual or triple channel.


Try using the first stick of RAM you had in there with the other stick that is in
the kit (other than the one you tried). If it works, then you just have a bad
stick of RAM.
 
Each of the three sticks works fine on its own. If i just have a single stick in slot 0, everything works groovy(i tried each of the three sticks in all 4 slots, shutting down completely between tests). When I add a second stick things go awry. Same if i add both the other 2, in any order, in any of the other slots. i'm going to try and see if there is a BIOS update.
