Slaz:We just had a great division meeting. We're trying to get the servers full and having success.
Fl!p: Great, let's get started. You're in charge of recruiting?

Fl!p: Hey Slaz! How are you doing this fine evening?

Slaz: I'm doing quite well this evening, we just had a great division meeting. We're trying to get the servers full and having success.

Fl!p: Great, let's get started. You're in charge of recruiting?

Slaz: Yes sir. I run the recruiting team. I help out with event coordinating, most of the ban requests with Music, and patrol the drop box. Other than that I keep an eye on the server and deal with issues as they come. BC2 leadership doesn't really assign things to people, we just help out whenever we can.

Fl!p: What are some pro recruiting skills?

Slaz: For me, recruiting isn't about numbers, its about quality. I appreciate when recruiters give it a personal touch. I don't like going in to a server and just asking, "Hey would you like to join eGO?" I like to develop a friendship; it's the personal touch that leads to a high retention rate, they feel like they're more apart of the family and that's what I teach my recruiters. Get the numbers while getting the quality.

Fl!p: Whats your most populated server?

Slaz: Well right now we started 2 new servers, Heavy Metal and Phubai, those two servers are more populated than more of our other servers that we've had for such a long time. They've moved past our Hardcore Rush server that happens to be in the top 50 BC2 servers in the world. Our 24/7 Heavy Metal is definitely our most popular server by far though.

Fl!p: Any advice for our incoming e's?

Slaz: It's all about having fun while learning and building upon maturity. In all honesty if you try too hard to be an outstanding member it really detracts from your experience. There's a difference between helping other people while keeping the servers clean and doing everything in the world. I've seen a lot of e's get burned out and it saddens me. It's frustrating for us to see someone who is stepping in everywhere, when we see them get burned out. So sit back and have fun and just enjoy the game, that's why you're in our community; admining comes with time and if you're going out and seeking it, you may not get it, and when you do, it may not be as enjoyable.

Fl!p: What do you believe is so appealing about Bad Company 2 that separates itself from other FPS games?

Slaz: It focuses more on team work and coordination than any other game in my opinion. There are death match modes, but they are squad death matches. You plan out what you do and execute it. You can have fun yelling at people in the game and coordinate with your teammates and that's what makes it fun, you're not just trying to be the ace player. Who doesn't enjoy bringing down 3 story buildings and running people over in tanks? It's got a fun, balanced, game play that a lot of other games don't have. Hell, it's got land, sea and air.

Fl!p: It's pretty hard for you to hold events. What kind of events to you have?

Slaz: BC2 has a rigid server structure by EA, and they don't allow us to change or restrict anything. It's built into the code. It's hard to have customized events; we stay in our boundaries while providing fun, so we have squad tournaments. We have one every month, and sometimes we randomly assign teams, sometimes we let the members pick. It's really about team work, 4 v 4 working together trying to achieve a goal together; it's a lot of fun. It beats any sort of gaming in a regular server because you bond and rely on your teammates. We also give away super awesome prizes. It's fun for leadership to watch everyone really enjoying themselves for a weekend.

Fl!p: What brings you the most joy being in eGO?

Slaz: I like resolving issues. I know as a member of different communities, you really enjoy it when an issue get resolved quickly in a manner that you wish. I like making other people's experiences the best. It sounds like typical selflessness, but for me it's something I really enjoy. It's nice to know you're impacting someone else and that they are getting joy out of a problem being solved in a good manner. eGO stands for a lot, and it's nice being on the forefront of keeping our servers clean and holding up the ideals that we hold. It's something I wish I saw more of online. That's why I jumped on and said why not give it a try, they seem like nice people with good morals, and I found out I really enjoyed this community and it was a perfect match. I like showing people they don't have to get trolled, they can come on and play and get a laugh, and that's hard to find these days.

Fl!p: It's 20 years in the future and you've been promoted to community manager. What are your actions?

Slaz: The first thing I would do it invest as much time, effort, and money in a hello kitty division. Plug seems to be very interested in hello kitty games. Secondly, I would make it mandatory for everyone to have rainbow signatures. My rainbow avatar looks **FABULOUS**, and I believe that would be a good start, for my take over of EdgeGamers.

Counter Strike

By Christy/Fl!p

How are you, Christy?

Doing great! Keeping busy with work, family, and eGO!

That's good, so how does it feel being the newest addition to the Counter Strike:Source leadership team?

Feels great. Joining as an e, you think maybe someday I can make it to Advisor and I have. Its awesome that Leadership has given me the opportunity to take over the Events program. I definitely have some big shoes to fill taking over for iamevilbear.

Is there any sort of hazing going on?

Nothing at all really, just lots of new things to learn. A whole new side of eGO that I haven't seen.

Care to tell us about your newest map? What's it called again?

My newest addition to the Jail Server is called ba_jail_handofthrawn. It is a map I did for bigredking as he has a fascination with Star Wars and the old ZE Star Wars map he used to play. The name was his idea. It's from some Star Wars novel I believe. It was a pretty fun map to do and it is definitely big and open looking.

The jail rules seem pretty intimidating, any advice for those people that want to play, but are too scared because of the giant wall of rules?

Just play as a T until you get used to it. There aren't many rules to follow as a T. You can either listen to all the orders or just try to rebel. Being a CT is where a lot of your rules will come into effect. So starting as a T will get you an idea of things to do / not do. There is also a Jail Guide in the CS:S Division Discussion Forum.

What would you say is the 'ideal' e member?

A member who just comes to have fun. Someone who attends events, hangs out with us in Ventrilo. Ventrilo is the best place to get to know everyone in your division. That also gets you noticed for future promotions as well!

What sort of events will we be having in our near future?

We will be revisiting a lot of what we have done in the past month, as in Division Scrims, Road Trips, Invisible Man, Dog Tag Scrims, Hide n Seek, Extreme Climb, Mini Game Night, Deathrun Night, Jail Night. I think that about covers all of them. I also plan on bringing Last Man Standing back into the spotlight as a lot of our members enjoy it.

You're driving to work one morning and you draw some odd looks on your walk in. You sit down in your cubicle and spill some water on yourself to find in horror that you've forgotten to put on pants! What do you do?

Logical: Call a friend and have them bring me a new pair! Truthful: Nothing, that's how I always like to go to work!

Anything else you'd like to say or tell your fellow eGO members?

Thank you for this interview, and hope to see all of you attending our CSS Events! We have a great group of Event Coordinators that love to abuse, I mean get, you to have a ton of fun during the events!

Thanks!

Day of Defeat

Fl!p interviews C-WHiT, DoD:S Advisor!

Fl!p: So give me a run down of what DoD:S is all about. What kind of things go on in your division, and what is DoD:S like?

C-WHiT: Day of Defeat Source is a FPS set in the WWII European Theatre. It allows you to assume the role of a rifleman, infantryman, sniper, rocket, and/or machine gunner for either the Allied Forces or the Axis.

The eGO DoD:S Division is always kept busy with some of the most popular servers in the world and events, including the most popular in eGO. Currently, we offer 6 servers (plus a dedicated events server) that you can play on, and 4 out of 6 are ranked in the Top 100 (including 3 in the Top 50!). Did I mention that our Avalanche server is #1 in the world?

Realism is a modification to regular gameplay which incorporates strategy and teamwork. Taking it further here at eGO, we have incorporated basic aspects of the game of Risk to create a campaign-style tournament.

Fl!p: Where could somebody sign up for realism?

C-WHiT: Campaigns are run in 6-week durations. Each army fights for specific territories and as they battle for the territories, they win bidding points. Certain territories will require more bidding points for an army to attack. At the completion of the 6-week campaign, the army with the most territories will win the campaign.

Realism does have a slight learning curve, however, we have more than enough people willing to go over basic rules and tactics so you can excel in realism gameplay.

Moreover, people can read the DoD:S Realism Handbook Here: Click Here

Fl!P: Where could somebody sign up for realism?

C-WHiT: Realism 5 is set to begin on May 14th. You can register to play Here: Click Here

Fl!P: What other types of events happen in DoD:S?

DoD:S Leadership is in the midst of shuffling around events. Currently, we offer Wild Card on Thursdays (9PM EST) and Realisms on Saturdays (8PM EST). Furthermore, we do hold random events throughout the week.

Event Schedules can be found here: Click Here

Fl!P: I've seen a bit about the 'Real Soldier' award; how would one go about in achieving such a prestigious award?

C-WHiT: The "Real Soldier" Award is given to those who show dedication to the Realism Event. As you may imagine, hosting an event of that magnitude not only requires those leading the event, but requires those to show dedication to the event by coming and playing every week.

Fl!P: Does everyone in your leadership help with everything, or do you each have individual roles? example: recruiting, ban contests, etc.

C-WHiT: DoD:S Leadership is not separated into individual roles. We all help each other where help is needed. Furthermore, we all step up when we notice something that needs to be done. This requires us to be in constant communication with each other and I believe we do an amazing job at it.

Fl!P: What type of actions bring you the most joy in your position as an eGO leadership member?

C-WHiT: I think the most joyous part of Leadership is the fact that what you do as an Advisor or DL is shown by your members coming out and supporting you through events, divisional meetings, or just hanging out on Ventrilo.

Fl!P: Is there any advice you can give to our e's and future e's out there?

C-WHiT: Just have fun. That's our main goal here. Being promoted will come in time. For now, just have fun.

Fl!P: In 20 years, when you are promoted to Community Manager, what type of things will you strive for to help eGO continue to excel?

C-WHit: I would hope that whether it's myself or someone else, that whoever is in charge, that they would continue to uphold the values set here. Moreover, to initiate new and innovating ideas to the gaming realm.

Eve

By Fl!p

Hey Respawn, how are you doing?

I'm doing good, can't complain, rainy day, I was going to go out but I took a nap instead.

So give me a run down of what EVE is.

EVE is an massively multiplayer online that's unlike many MMOs out there. Instead of running around killing demons or ogres or whatever, EVE is a space based world. The thing about EVE that I love is there's a lot to do. It's more of a sandbox than other MMOs. If it's a slow day, I'll go run missions to make money and buy new stuff, or if there's more people on, I will go out and get a fleet and do some player versus player (PvP). I do industry, finding resources and building stuff, but that's kind of boring. I do it when my in-game wallet needs an injection and the stuff I'm looking for is easier to find, or easier to build on my own, rather than buying it.
We've got a heavy focus on PvP. The core of any PvP is your personal economy; can you afford to lose these ships and can you afford to go out and kill enemies? If you're doing PvP or you're at war, then your goal is to make more money because eventually you're going to lose it. There are people that make a living doing PvP operations, but EdgeGamers as a core isn't set up for that. People that make a living off of PvP are usually mercenaries. They will kill a ship with high dollars and loot it, but eGO doesn't focus on that.
Otherwise, it's a pretty wide open game; I know some people that do a lot of market playing, Dominion for example. He buys and sells and makes money that way. I have another friend that has a less legitimate way of doing things. He goes out and tricks less experienced players in to shooting at him in high security space, and then gets a bigger ship and ganks them, that is, steals their stuff, and sells it. He also does contracts, or missions. To summarize, there's a lot of things to do and many opportunities to make money and spend it on shiny new things in the game.

People seem to be pretty intimidated by the learning curve, any advice for newcomers?

The best advice I can give is get in an event with us and don't be afraid to ask questions. One thing about EVE is that the death penalty is much different. In other MMOs, you don't lose your stuff when you die. In EVE, you lose everything, unless a friend picks it up in a fleet. Run all the tutorials. Read online as well. There's a lot of resources out there. EVE is complex with complex interactions and a lot to learn.
Hang out with us in Vent. You'll learn things from sitting and listening to people. Hook up and fly around with someone that knows the game. Solo isn't as much fun to me. Yea, you can play it by yourself, but it's much more fun with other people. So many different roles and things you can do. It's better with multiplayer interactions. Example: the best way to earn money is doing missions, but it takes awhile to get to high level missions. If you play with people that have played for awhile, they can handle most things and you can come in and gain money and your standings increase. Your standings dictates what level missions you can pull.

Do you guys have any kind of events? If so, what kind do you have?

Not quite the same as other divisions, but yea we do. We don't have scheduled events, because our events take so much time, or so many people. We occasionally have PvP tournaments where we have certain restrictions. We have to have a single type of ship that goes against another player with the same ship, and best man wins. Typical events are PvP rooms are where we get a group in a fleet and fly around looking for people to blow up. The biggest challenge is being a fleet commander, it's hard as can be. We are dependent on those few people that are fleet commanders. Last night I came home and got in vent and I got invited in to some contracts. It was just a random thing, so we do have events, but they are not really scheduled.

What's more appealing in EVE, Player versus Environment or Player versus Player?

These days, it's more PvP, and I think that's more natural for players as they progress. When I first played, it was the all about PvE, and I ran many missions because it's a good way to make money (ISK), but these days it's definitely PvP. PvP gives that unknown element of danger. In PvE, there's only a select number of missions you can run; when you run one in order to maximize it, you pull up a guide online. There are a few new missions where it's super exciting because I don't know what's going to happen next. But for the most part, in PvE, if you get in trouble, you can just warp out and save your ship. In PvP, it's unknown; you don't know what you're going against. They might try to spring a trap, and most of all you're playing against a human rather than an AI, which does something predictable every time.

What kind of people do you meet on EVE?

All kinds of people! To me, EVE is a wild west in space. Compare that to an eGO game, where we can control the environment with our admining, you can't do that in EVE. It's an MMO, therefor we've got no admin abilities. You meet your fair share of punks and jerks out there, but you meet a lot cool people who are really open and friendly. I've made friends with random people in other corporations (guilds) and flown ships with random people, kind of like an un-policed internet. We meet countless types of players, with all that said, I think the coolest thing about EVE is it's all one large world, besides the Chinese servers, but other than that, we all play on the same server cluster so we've got people from all over the world that play this together, which is really cool to me. You meet people you'd have a hard time meeting elsewhere in other games.

EVE seems to be growing larger every day; what do you think is the appeal to EVE that attracts so many players?

I really think its the sandbox nature of EVE. It really is one of those games that when you get past the steep learning curve, there's so many different things to do. I have so many characters, 3 that I primarily play, but I have more to try different aspects of the game. I tried some corporate infiltration one time, where I would go in to other corporations and steal things.

What part of your job do you enjoy the most?

That's a tough question. The part where I don't have to do any do any work, just kidding. The thing about EVE and the way we are structured is we don't really have any direct responsibilities, but what I do enjoy is trying to get people together and play together and help promote a fun play environment. If I'm there, I don't mind putting together a fleet. I feel like it's my responsibility to make sure people are having fun, and that's what I enjoy the most.

What is your idea of the ideal e member?

With eGO in general, remember we are all here to have fun, have fun first, business second. Don't get too stuck on being promoted. We are all here to have fun, and I think that's something a lot of people forget. When it comes to EVE, I've got to say come to EVE with an open mind. It is a high learning curve. Also, if you have your mind set on being promoted to an admin only, don't expect to come here to be promoted. The one thing about EVE is, because we don't have admin stuff, we don't really promote regularly like other divisions do. In EVE, with increase in EdgeGamers rank, you don't necessarily get an increase of responsibility in the game. If you join EVE and you don't get promoted, it probably doesn't have anything to do with your maturity; it's probably because we don't have the need for admins. It's much different than in TF2. In EVE, aside from leadership, everyone has the same responsibility.

20 years later when you become community manager, what are some of the things you will ensue on eGO?

I'd buy everyone a jacket and snow shovel because hell has frozen over.

First Person Shooter eXperimental has had another great month! With the addition of the Killing Floor servers FPS:X or as many people call it the p90:x division has been getting a lot of chatter. The game itself is a gigantic hit for EdgeGamers as a whole as well as for the division. Killing Floor boot camp is coming up; players will be shown where the best spots are on the map. There is also a new vehicle mod that was uploaded onto a sixteen slot Killing floor server. Please drop box more ideas for servers, and events. The first admin classes for Killing Floor were recently held and more are planned for the future.

Insurgency is doing fairly well, however it could be doing better. There is an upcoming event for Insurgency so keep a look out on the forums for it. The tournament is planned to be played with the classic dustbowl format.

Crysis 2 did not do well. All of the servers are planned to be shut down by the end of the month.

There has also been a lot of chatter about possibly getting servers for Brink, however at the moment it is still just talk.

If you have more ideas for games please drop box them and leadership will decide if it is a game that would suit Edgegamers.

Strategy

The Strategy Division is pleased to announce the addition of 'World of Tanks' to its supported games list. This addition brings the total number of supported games in the Strat Division to Five.

Here is a little insight into what World of Tanks is about. WOT is a massive online multi-player team based game that puts you in the driver's seat of your very own tank. WOT possesses a Dynamic Combat System, which features a variety of game modes from RPG to Strategy. It also features a vast armory, a wide variety of maps and the ability to team up with friends and "try to take over the world".

Recently, The Strat Division hosted a League of Legends tournament sponsored by RIOT Games. Held on April 23, 2011, the tournament was a huge success and featured a large number of teams, all competing for the top prize of 5 x $15 Riot Points, 5 x Triumphant Ryze Skin and 5 x Next released Champion Skin Bundle.

Team Dino walked away with the top prize, defeating the Real Team and earning their spot at the top of the EdgeGamers Organization League of Legends Tournament.

We caught up with Strategy Division Advisor, Lava, who had this to say about the tournament. "I think the tournament ran a lot better than what we expected. Overall we were expecting over 280 potential players in the tournament and also in the EdgeGamers Organization Ventrilo," Lava continued, "All in all it was a good tournament and the Strategy Division would like to thank Riot Games for sponsoring this tournament and we would also like to thank all of the players that showed up to make this tournament a huge success."

Trading Server
The Team Fortress 2 division has undergone an interesting change this past month involving the divisional event server. Division Leader Crazywolf summed up this change as, "Opening the event server to use when there are no events scheduled and running it as a trading server." The server will be running a custom map designed by community members, and will run a plug-in created and tested by members of the eGO community. More information regarding the changes, those responsible and the trading server itself can be found at the following news post: http://www.edgegamers.org/forums/showthread.php?t=168229

Whisker Biscuit
A significant changing of personnel occurred this past month with Whisker Biscuit transferring divisions from Strat to TF2. As an Advisor, his primary duties will be with the Event Coordinators. Details about Whisker Biscuit's divisional transfer can be seen at the news post here: http://www.edgegamers.org/forums/showthread.php?t=168676

The Pathfinders
TF2 launched a new program called 'The Pathfinders'. This is a group of TF2 members dedicated to keeping all TF2 servers continually populated and is open to all members. If anybody is interested in joining they can PM Vudu. The news post for The Pathfinders can be found at the following link: http://www.edgegamers.org/forums/showthread.php?t=169432

World of Warcraft

By Meades

Both parts of the World of Warcraft Division, Horde and Alliance, have a weekly Baradin Hold raid. Research tells us that the Baradin Hold raid is a 10/25 player raid on the main fortress of Tol Barad (A ravaged island kingdom). As difficult as Baradin may be, the Division is taking a step further and attempting a Blackwing Descent raid, which seems to be another 10/25 man inside Blackrock Mountain, an area that is hotly contested between the forces of Ragnaros and his Dark iron dwarfs on one side and the black dragon Nefarian on the other. A much harder raid indeed.

The Alliance guild would like to congratulate two members on their promotions to Guild Managers. Dinosoar takes her place among the ranks as Operations Manager, and Killamaster earning a position as Recruiting Manager. Both players will be helping out with day to day requirements.

As for the Division itself, people are preparing for the in-game Easter One (Noble Garden) events. This event comes every Easter, where players participate in quests and fun activities to earn achievements. WoW Advisor Fact passed on to us that the Division has some of their own events in the works, but would not disclose any details on what the events might be yet.

Other upcoming news in World of Warcraft are the releases of patch 4.1 and patch 4.2. Patch 4.1 will introduce new hard mode heroic dungeons, which will create new raids and instances for the heroes of WoW to conquer. Patch 4.1 will also be releasing class fixes, which will help balance and improve game play for all hero classes in WoW, and some new UI (User Interface) improvements to go along with it. Patch 4.2 will be introducing a new raiding tier, which means better armor for the highest level heroes in World of Warcraft. All in all, WoW is going to be a pretty happening Division in May.
