So, I have a headset, and with my new HDMI Graphics card, (its a Catalyst) I can only hear through my monitor's speaker:( I wanna hear through my headset, but when I plug it in with the sound card, still goes through the monitor speaker's

I can't really aford a DVI cable currently, Is there any way I can fix this?

I went through the Catalyst control center, and can't find anything:(

Please help!

Your monitor should have a place to plug up your headset since it supports HDMI. DVI is usually cheaper. You can get one for probably 6 bucks.

when it comes to the sound, is your motherboard configured for only the sound card or for both the sound card & the motherboard sound? my monitor has speakers built into it, but it doesnt have the capability for hdmi. please inform us as to what monitor/lcd tv that u have so we can help get you the best solution possible.

When installing the Catalyst drivers:

1. Select custom (rather than express)

2. You can un-check the 'audio drivers' box and they will not be installed.

3. Your existing audio card will continue to be the primary sound source (and you'll be able to use the HDMI as the graphics output).

Since you already have the HDMI audio drivers installed, use the ATI uninstaller from the 'Add or Remove Programs' in the Control Panel.

Restart your machine to complete the removal of the ATI drivers.

Reinstall the drivers following the 3 steps above...

Do you know how to find what graphics card you are using from the control?

Thats simple. Go to your My computer icon (on the desktop or from the start menu), right click on it & select properties. Now depending on whether you use XP/Vista/7, you look for device manager (cant remember which tab its under for XP). Anyways, once ur in device manager, press the + sign besides display adapter & itll tell ya what kinda graphics card youre using.

Alternatively, you can go to your control panel & look for device manager there as well.

Now if someone that uses the AMD/ATI software knows how to figure that out, then coolness.

Maybe im misunderstanding the question buy have you tried adjuting your "default playback device"? I hear this issue alot, and its as simple as right clicking the speaker icon in the task bar, cliking the "playback devices" (for vista/7) or "adjust audio properties" then the "audio" tab and selecting the device you want to play the sound. For you, it seems that the "HDMI" is selceted and you want "your sound card" (it will have the sound card name) selected. It may fix your issue. Let me know how it goes.
