Who is playing the online beta for Age of Empires online? Its free you can go to the Age of empires web site to get a beta key and start playing. Its actually not bad for the concept they are trying to make popular. Its going to be a free to play game but I think you will have to pay for the game when it comes out. go to http://ageofempiresonline.com/ and check it out its ran by Windows live games. You are also able to use Windows live to voice chat ingame as well as chat with your friends from xbox live which is a very cool feature i think. Add me if you want my Live name is Skattl3s and i will add you once you have the game.

I was just playing Age of Empires the other day, a little old school I know but it was super fun. I didn't know their was online I will have to check this out more.

Yeah dude its like a mmo but not It still has rts which is the main part of the game. They added co-op which is cool and still have pvp.

It do not have the mmo element, it is not an mmo, it is normal RTS in different lobbies, it is much different than the classic age of empires and it is probably just using the name for marketing like when Nintendo make new games and put Mario or Kirby or any of their other characters into them, even though it is a totally different game you will get.

The reason I said that is because they have levels as well as different types of items you find to upgrade your guys. They rare and unique items that can you can also sell to your friends they also have sort of a skill tree as well.

Was interested when I first heard about this, but when I read an article that basically said it was Pay 2 Win, I lost all interest in it.

Sucks too, AoE will never regain the former glory of Age of Kings. RIP Ensemble.

No its Free to play!! i think you have to buy the game but there is no monthly payment. They interviewed the Dev's and they said there WILL NOT be a monthly fee.

And Hidan my gamer tag is Skattl3s. Hit me up and we will co-op maybe beat some people at 2v2. Also you might be too high of a lvl for me to play with you not sure if i can even do co-op yet.

This is the article that I had read. From it, the writer seemed to paint a picture that the game was micro-trans and to be able to use the better items, you would have to dole out some real cash. If this turns out to not be the case, perhaps I'll d/l it and check it out.

I'm gonna go ahead and double-post (as ugly as that may be) in order to clarify the issue I had brought up before since I decided to take the time to look into it.

To reiterate: My issue with the game was that I had read an article in which the Previewer stated that the game was based on a Freemium Business Model, i.e. F2P w/ an online store that sells content in the form of packs.
The Previewer even went so far as to suggest that the game was bordering on the line as to whether or not it was "Pay2Win".

I took a look around the AoE:O website and found this blog explaining their business model to those concerned about it.

For anyone that wishes to read the entire blog post, I'll post the link.
