Hello DoD:S players,
I'm from the CS:S division and this "Realism Campaign" has really spurred my interest in DoD. Seeing as I've never played DoD (even though it came with CS:S), I was wondering if you have some beginner tips so I don't get completely pwned when Realism starts.

As a beginner, and from CSS, I'd say there's very little you can do to avoid getting pwned :)

Just try and have fun, listen to your peers and pay attention. Don't be the first guy on attack, don't be the most obvious guy on defense. Find a good crowd and bait the hell out of people. Find angle's that increase your chance of killing and decrease your chance of being seen (i.e. camp hard).

Play some dod before the realism begins. Might be a good idea. :)

exactly my idea, hop onto one of our servers and practice with some of the guys from each side, try and find out what your best with, and try and stick with that in realism.

Crouching makes your target box smaller, lessons the effects of recoil and makes it harder for people to hear you.

Some guns will not fire when transitioning between crouched, prone, and standing. Some guns will not fire when moving.

The support rifles have nasty recoil. Use small bursts, aim low and let the shots walk up from feet to head.

Winning teams communicate about the game, not about their favorite sports team, beer, car.

Watch your ammo and change clips before you need to. Sometimes changing to your pistol is faster than reloading.

You've probably got grenades. Use them.

You can give generic ammo to anyone. Give it to machine gunners and rockets. By default press the H key.

You can drop your weapon and pick up a weapon of another class. e.g. machine gun, rocket, sniper rifle, but there is a limited time between the guy dies and the weapon disappears.

Random Class is a great way to learn strengths and weaknesses of all classes and is a chance to get a machine gun, sniper, and rocket even if those classes are full.

The game is won by taking objectives, not by racking up a high kill death ratio.

Most important; it's a game. Have fun.

Play it the opposite way you play CSS. Use cover, don't run and gun or you will get shot, crouch for accuracy, use strategy in how to attack the other team, and never play CSS again.;)

purty sure Mr. Quaffer has summed it up for ya

Thank you all for the tips. Hopefully I will be able to stay alive just a little bit longer during Realism thanks to you guys.

dont worry about gettin pwnd...its just a game...ive been playin DOD since 1.3 (on this same computer might i add) and i still have those days when i cant buy a kill...actually...been havin a week like that...but the point is to have fun...definitely wont take ya long to catch on...get on a server and follow an experienced player around...most of our guys wont mind showin ya some tricks of the trade...

as far as realism...stand up straight...dont play with your flashlight and listen to your CO and XO and you'll be fine...

1) Don't stand in front of doorways or windows. Most likely, someone is looking down there.
2) Don't block your teammates. This is an easy way friendly fire occurs. Doesn't hurt to shoot in the same direction as your teammates too :p
3) When firing out of a window or doorway, give yourself an angle so that the least amount of area your body shows is minimal to any enemies looking through windows or doors. Also, helps to ensure that your gun isn't sticking out for the enemy to see.
4) When entering a room/door/window, it doesn't hurt to 'pie' that access point, meaning you check as much of an angle instead of waltzing right in and finding someone hiding behind a doorway to knife you.
5) If you're using a auto... to help accustomise yourself with the recoil difference between these autos in dod and CSS, aim for the enemy's crotch. Sounds weird but, the recoil will at least lead you up his torso when firing.
6) Communicate with your teammates and use your minimap. These ones are easy that you know from any game involving teamwork.
7) In realism, take it slow... as Smilo said, no point being gung-ho in realism (unless it's Attack vs. Attack). Patience and awareness get you far.
8) Learn the maps. Play on some of the eGO pub maps we have here. You'll learn a lot from the guys there as most of us spend our time on these servers when not in realism, OR you can track some of us down if we're going into public realisms somewhere to gain more experience. Knowing maps and surroundings will give you an advantage of anticipating enemy movements or positions.
9) Try keep yourself hidden from the enemy sniper. The snipers in realism are usually very good. Put yourself in a position that gives you the best possible advantage.
10) Don't forget that you can actually 'prime' nades in DoDs. It usually takes 5 seconds before it explodes so, priming it can ensure when you want it to explode and where if you throw it correctly.
11) Listen to your superiors and the others. They've got loads of experience and will guide you on what to do.
12) The Cake is a Lie.
13) HAVE FUN and Learn :)
Realism is a blast! :)
