I am going to school for web design and development soon and i was wondering if macbook is better than macbook pro or vice versa.

I would go with the pro.

Sandy Bridge is a lot faster than Core2.

Macbook pro, i have the 2010 i5 @ 2.4 and Nvidia 330m, very good laptop. Never has given me a problem.

no offence to your preference but why does everyone for some reason believe macs are somehow magically better at "graphic design" than a pc? i don't get why people shell out like an extra 1000 dollars when there is an option much cheaper and just as good.

In my experience i studied graphics designed we used PC's there was a few macs in the room and they were terrible, I also freelance graphic design on my windows PC using Adobe Master Collection, never had a problem, absolutely no lag on either pc one with a core i5 and 4gb (laptop) of ram the other with an AMD Phenom II X6 and 8gb of ram (desktop)

I was going to say that, but then figured I shouldn't.

I have done/am doing both of the things that the OP has said on a PC just fine. I think it's more of a preference than a "omg macs are bettorz at dem grafix"

Yes, you can do the same things on a PC as you can on a Mac. But some prefer the Apple software options, which is fine.

And not all Macs are too terribly overpriced. I personally think the 13" MBP is a great machine at a fair price.

some graphics classes require OSX.

FCP only works on osx

1 more vote for the Pro. I have a mid-2010 15-inch MBP and consider it the best laptop I've ever owned.

I'd go for the Macbook Pro. I'm a jazz studies major and my Mac let's me do everything that I want for music. GarageBand (a standard program on a Macbook Pro) let's me take my custom made backing tracks and turn them into professional-sounding, studio-quality takes that I can play over and record...it sounds so good that I could market a CD with just two programs and my playing.

Also, I can play every game except for the "insane" ones without a problem, even when the charger isn't plugged in. I have Windows on my Mac through bootcamp and that hasn't given me any problems either.

I'd definitely go for it. It's worth the investment especially since the new Macbook Pros just came out and have a really nice graphics card...much better than the one that was the laptop's standard card a few months ago.
