TF2: The Replay Update

Apparently if you downgrade the game (don't know how to do this) then your old demo's will work.

Unfortunately, doing so is a complete pain, I've done it a couple times and it took me hours each time.

I think I may be more excited about the hints at "Meet The Medic" than anything else. Although the creative part of me is hoping that this thing runs smooth. I love creating music and videos.

Also, anyone else want to set up some thread/system where we watch each others submitted videos to get to those achievements/hats?

Query: can you still record normal demos and use this editor for them? If so, I'll definitely make some entries :)

And @ NintendoDude, I'll bring it up in Leadership, I'm sure we have some prizes and such we can get and then make something like that

The replay system uses a completely different format, so it's not possible to do that at this time, although it appears that Valve has some plans for that, but I'm not sure.

After playing around a bit with the new video editor, seems pretty effective so far.

After you record your session, it saves it as (I guess?) a temporary file that you can view/edit.

Some neat things it can do: you can view the perspective of anyone who was playing while you were recording (you only see your perspective, but if you make an awesome taunt-kill, you can switch over to your victim's point-of-view) or you can no-clip the camera around the map. Pretty neat for taking videos of in-game action. (Next time someone is accused of hacking, you don't need to spec them, just pop in your video editor, switch to them, and see what they're doing).

You can view/edit videos without it, but to render them you need Quicktime installed.

Other than my replays getting lost in the download process and TF2 crashing on me several times already, it's pretty fun. I also love the Director taunt you unlock - epic.

This may be a stupid question, but can you edit your point of views with the TF2 editor? I seem to only be able to render a video with either 1st person, 3rd person, or free camera view, not multiples in one "take".

Also, you can't edit together multiple takes with the TF2 editor, can you? I'm too used to my own video editing programs, I guess...

One more question: are the saved movies saved onto a cloud or on your hard disk? Cause I can't seem to find them on the disk...

Yes. When you record, you are recording everything that is taking place in the server from the time you start to when you die. You can switch to any other person in the server, or you can no-clip around the map.

I don't think so.

are the saved movies saved onto a cloud or on your hard disk?

From what I could see, they are saved in the cloud...until you actually 'save' them; than they are on your computer.

The editor is pretty good, but to bad I can't export or upload to YouTube. :/

What problems are you guys having with it? I can export and upload fine! :)

Also, if you haven't noticed yet, our Valvemaps, Egypt, and 2Fort Fast Respawn servers are now all replay enabled, join them for some fun!

I had to install Quicktime (still wouldn't export for me)

So I restarted Steam (still wouldn't export for me)

Rebooted my PC, restarted Steam and then I could export/upload fine.

Also, who the heck honestly expects to get 100,000 views?!?!? My most viewed TF2 youtube video has around 14,000 views :(

Yes! this stupid no gameplay related stuff lowering my achievement percentages!

I think I can get quite a few views... I just have to wait for the right moments :)
