Curse you windows update

so, i logged onto my computer last night, and it said that there were some updates. these were updates one would find in the windows update in the control panel. i woke up this morning to find that my computer is now dead in the water, and i can't get past the login screen. so until this gets straightened out, i won't be playing of for a while.

Does it just stay at the "Configuring windows update"?

If yes, just go into Safe Mode, let it run and then it will save "Update Failed" then restart the PC and login normally. Should work, happened to me =P

Ah, that sucks. I got stuck on the update screen a week or so ago. I just left it and it eventually started and said the update failed. I've completely disabled windows update now.

well, after almost 2 HOURS on the phone with someone from Microsoft tech support, we have made it almost nowhere.

what happens? what do you see on the login screen? what errors do you see? where does it stop you?

If you get to configuring Windows Updates and it stops there for some time, just go into safe-boot and log in. Once you are in manually install all the updates in Windows Update and change your settings to 'Download updates but let me choose whether to install them'

I had this problem about a week ago, this solved it.

Go to restore point in safe mode and restore it previous to those updates "easy", if that doesn't work then try to repair windows via a install disc.

P.D. Throwing away your computer through the window while you rise your fist in anger cursing Microsoft gives you lots of personal gratification.

to make matters worse, i had to print off an essay that would be due on thursday the 12th.

it pains me to see technology fail people, it pains me even more when the folks charged with the job of resolving technological issues fail the people too.

It's not hard at all. When you open your case up, look at how your current harddrive is installed. Just screw in the new harddrive, then plug in the wires that you have taken note of before removing the old harddrive. There is only two wires, you should be fine.
