I don't think that would be covered, sadly. It looks like someone stepped on it or something. Like it was damaged by the owner. :/

Yeah, totally cracked (either stepped on, or something left on the keyboard or something)... unless you purchased an Accidental Damage addition to your warranty (which I suggest on any higher-end laptops), its not gonna be covered... not unless they have a string of bad LCDs that spontaneously cracked...

You also don't need to throw it away.

You can get the monitor fixed for a large sum of money, but it's better than wasting $1,100.

But yeah, there's not a snowflake's chance in hell they're going to cover that.

From Alienware:
Scope of the Alienware Limited Product Warranty

Alienware warrants to the original purchaser that any Alienware branded hardware will be free of defects in workmanship and materials for the applicable limited warranty period set forth in your packing slip or invoice, which is measured from the date of shipment. Importantly, this limited product warranty does not cover:
  • Non-Alienware branded hardware products and accessories e.g., monitors, speakers, and most Gear Shop items;
  • Software, including the operating system and software added through AlienFactory?, Alienware?s factory integration system, as well as any third party software;
  • Product that has been damaged by actions that are beyond Alienware?s control, including for example, impacts, fluids, fire, flood, wind, earthquake, lightning or similar disaster, war, strike, lockout, epidemic, destruction of production facilities, riot, insurrection or material unavailability;
  • Product that has been damaged through misuse, abuse or mishandling, including without limitation the unauthorized modification of the system as a whole or any individual component, and/or the attachment of peripheral devices;
  • Product for which Alienware has not received payment; or
  • Paint or finish.

The only thing I can suggest is looking for a replacement screen if they still make them for your laptop.

This happened to my girlfriend's screen when she broke it on accident. Dell replaced it no questions asked. They told her to take the hard drive out and they sent her the same model without a hard drive.

Edit: Considering you own a Dell too, it should be replaced. You might have to pay for shipping, but that's not bad.

Definitely not covered, but not outside the realm of possibility that they will fix or replace it. That's what Lenovo did for my wife after she spilled a glass of wine on her laptop rendering it useless. The repair call center person she talked to said it wasn't covered but they would take care of it anyway. Worth a shot at least.

first i have that alien lap top it great. leaveing the key board on does not do a thing. ur brother steped on it or if u have pest and stuff and left it on the floor they step on it. the scren is FRAGILE like u put 2lb of pressure will its close it will break. just call alien ware and c wat they can do

If you know how, installing a new screen yourself could work. Probably save a lot more money than a store doing it.

Everyone said it, but I'll just recap.

This is not covered by the warranty.

Your brother is full of crap, and either he or someone else stepped on it.

Give the company a call as they may decide to honor it as a warranty fix.

Talk to your parents about how brother will repay you the $$$ due to his fat feet.

If they don't cover it...

Write down model number and check eBay for LCDs. (One problem here is that often the same model will use multiple LCDs in the manufacturing process. You may have to actually take the broken LCD out first.) LCDs (depending on size etc...) typically run from $75 to $150 on eBay.

Take the old screen out and replace.

If you take it to a computer shop, you'll typically pay 1-2 hours labor for said procedure (even though it realistically can take less than half an hour).

Normally if you Google "replace <model> lcd" you'll nearly always find instructions on taking the screen apart etc...
