HL2.exe error

Hey guys, a buddy of mine keeps getting the (Hl2.exe error) which is causing him to not be able to play dod:s, CSS, Tf2. If anyone knows how to fix it, please PM me.

EXACT ERROR MESSAGES: hl2.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. hl2.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program.

WHAT HARDWARE OR SOFTWARE IS AFFECTED: source games

WHEN / HOW OFTEN DOES THE PROBLEM OCCUR: Every time he trys to play

RECENT CHANGES (SOFTWARE / HARDWARE / ETC): None

LAST TIME COMPUTER WORKED FINE: Last time he played source ( few months ago)

RECENT EVENTS: <power outage / lightning / BSOD> None

THINGS YOU HAVE ALREADY TRIED TO FIX PROBLEM: Deleted .BLOG file, updated his drivers.

Motherboard: Dont know what he has (dont know how thats possible)

200 Megabytes Hard Drive Free Space

have you tried deleting steam and erasing the folder which may be left behind and then reinstlal and re download the games?

There may be an easier way but it sounds like the exe is crashing and that it is probably not window's fault this time. If you dont want to erase all your content then i would suggest searching steampowered.com forums and see what others have done because i'm sure there are like 15 ways to get this message - all it is is a generic windows message - but reading the many solutions may help you see if the sysptoms might be the same as with your friend.
