Swear filter?

Hi guys, before i joined eGO i was freqenting the css servers and i noticed, the admins ARE ALWAYS HAVING TO TELL PEOPLE TO STOP SWEARING lol. and i think it would be so much easier if you guys installed the swear filter. It would take a lot of work off the admins and itd be much better to keep the trash silent.

his may be a organization wide suggestion but i posted here because i have seen it happen SOOO many times in the CSS servers.

Filter = additional plug-ins = more lag.

Filters don't prevent people from swearing. It just prevents people from seeing what word they're using.

I've played on some BC2 servers with filters and they're not too good. I was kicked for saying "what the hell?" after somebody shot down my chopper with a tank. :angry:

dynasty - don't take it the wrong way, it's a perfectly legit suggestion.

eGO is just a bit different in that we usually have more than enough admins on to take care of language (and other) issues.

To be fair, the effect a simple swearing filter would have on server performance is minimal. There are plenty of swearing filters that rather than censor the word, they just don't send your messages through to the chat when there's a bad word in there, forcing the person to type it again. Something like that could work, but I guess it's not completely necessary.

back in the day when I played the good ol' GunZ (before it was swarmed by hackers) if you sweared the message didn't displayed, showing a green text that said "please don't swear" or something like that... but beign mature can always work

I think what everyone is really trying to say is that you should pose this idea to leadership in a drop box post. What you hear in this thread may or may not be the official standing of leadership. The only way to find out for sure is to ask them.

Well, the list of common offensive words we find on the servers isn't really that big. Plus there are already lists out there which take a matter of seconds to find.

Just to clarify, I'm not particularly for or against the idea, I'm just saying how it could work.

I know somthing like this is used on the COD: Black Ops servers. Sure its a different program but it does a good job warning/kicking people when they type out curse words (only type, not speak).

I think the question has been answered. We run a responsible community and we clearly state the rules on join.

We don't plan on installing a filter in the near future. I would appreciate if the people in this thread would answer the question instead of getting sarcastic and trolling the poster.
