I'm not sure if I should post this here or in the recruiting office. If anyone could let me know what you think? My 6 year old son moved away yesterday, over the weekend I decided to let him play some DoD. He's played single player FPS games for a couple years, his ability to grasp computer input has always amazed me. Most other adults in my family can't use the mouse and keyboard simultaneously... He's watched me play DoD on and off since he could focus on the screen.

Some of you may have played with him, I changed my name to Bradly (I'm 6) while he was playing. We joined some eGO servers after running in to harsh language other places. I knew it would be a lot harder for him since the quality of players are usually higher, but he still surprised me a lot. And he still had a great time.

I was wondering if there are any age restrictions for joining eGO? I've searched and cannot find any. I want to purchase DoD for him so we can play it while he lives so far away, would he be able to join EdgeGamers? He can read most words (doesn't take the time to while playing). He has his own email address but I would be the one signing him up.

Jeff

This will be a decision for council. I personally have no problem with it, but know that we can not catch all the filth that happens in the server. We go out of our way to keep it clean tho.
The only issue is that he is 6. But I would go out of my way to protect him all that I could even if council declines him into the clan.

Hello Currahee. We're very glad to hear such reply from our members. I do believe that there's no age restriction for joining edgegamers. Anyone from new born to positive infinity years old can join. We only ask them to abide rules and hold the clan standards. We're trying to create a positive gaming community where everyone can enjoy, regardless age, gender, ethnicity.
Go ahead and head over recruiting office and sign up the form.

Awesome. Yes I'm going to read the rules to him and make sure he knows how to follow them and make sure he's willing to join up. He's usually very polite and gets enough negative unclean language where he lives to shrug off anything that does slip onto an eGO server.

The only real problems he could cause would be friendly fire, which luckily is off on most eGO servers and stopping to check his score or change class in a bad spot blocking other people in his way. He also would sometimes switch teams without looking first.

He just left here yesterday and is still on the road, so it may be a couple days before I get a good talk with him and sign him up (if he wants to that is).

If anyone does have any issues please feel free to talk to me.

Thanks

No issues here. Jeff. In my opinion, if he is going to be playing anyway, why not do it in a community that cares and will take care of their own. I'm sure any Admin would take into consideration the fact that he's in the server put extra effort to make sure eGO servers are the way they should be.

the other day in Kalt there was a 6 year old boy playing the game (coincidence?), and believe me when i tell you i didn't let anyone get away with anything. :)

If you have any questions regarding applications (even though im sure you know how since you've already applied :P) or joining a house (highly recommended!) feel free to PM me any time.

I have no problem with him playing. I do think that you should be monitering his play. if I see him on I will give him a big welcome. :)

WOW 6 years old! man kids how a days are getting so smart!!! i dont have prob with it.

would be a welcomed change.

I would like to know the name he uses and become pretty familiar with it in case s- hits the fan in a server, so I could get an eg or ego to clean things up.

my suggestion here
I am only 16 yrs old
I touched my father / sister pc since I was five
I played games like Age of Empire II, LF2 since I was eight
I only played CS since I was 12, and I played DoD since I was 14.

My point is, contemporily, kids get to know these games when they are eight or nine. But is it good for them? I don't think so. I personally think, they will get over with these games within a few days if you don't let them play anymore. I don't force to do anything, but to concern with their age and development, it's important to keep these games away from them. You know what I mean? I am not saying these games are bad, but not designed for these young kids. I would recommend you not to let him play these games anymore. Don't ever show him this game when he's in your home.

There are always news about 8 / 9 yrs kids attacking classmates, or end up in a family fight with his parents. I often heard of murder too...
DoD is entertainment game, but still, violence, you want to let these kids play only when they are, at the minimum of 12 yrs old.

I am not trying to say anything bad, but I am kind of conservative with kids' developement, so I think 6 yrs old is too young to play these games. But I wouldn't have any problem have him to join though. If he's going to play maybe half of hr, something like that, it's okay still. But you have to watch him very closely, when I started playing these games, I got violence and always yelled at people, now you can see how these games get into our minds???

Through my research (i am working as a psyhc student), gaming for more than a hr, we lose ourselves control. Our brains, our minds, are then, lead by the game. More than an hr, we could hardly draw ourselves from the game./..)

I came across CS when I was 9. And in Asia, you'll see kids like 5-6 years old owning adults at internet cafe in FPS games ^__^

I think that 6 may be a tad young for any violent game, but meh... your call on that sorta thing. I have no personal problem with it.

That would be kinda cool...he'd be the youngest member in the clan

Wow cool, i saw him on Kalt a week or so ago. It was cool to see a 6 year old play some WWII action game.

Fun fun fun.

I am a cert. Child and Youth Counselor, and while I agree with you for a majority of this, I think if it is done once a while, it could be ok. Games like this typically should not be given to children to play with, however, if the child comes from a firm background, and with parent to teach them along life, it can be beneficial. It depends on the adult.

I have no certificate or anything like that. And im also studying Psyc (but not in this fied), so i'll just talk from experience. I've played violent games ever since.... i can't remember. If you want to consider FF violent, then since those times. or Doom, Goldeneye 64, etc then we'll go from there.

My parents always emphasized the difference between fantasy and reality. I grew up being aware that what was ok in a video game isn't okay for real life; I've never had any problems concerning violence. my brother was the same way. He's always loved his games! He never had a problem with violence.

I do think it mostly comes down to the parent's constantly reminding/teaching their children, and being strict about manners and behaviour towards other people.

There are always news about 8 / 9 yrs kids attacking classmates, or end up in a family fight with his parents. I often heard of murder too...
I somewhat agree, but this has always been happening even before video games. It is just nature that some little kids are just violent. Now though, people try to blame TV and Videogames because no one can just accept the fact that not all little kids are angels.

But anyway... Jeff is his father, and he is obviously giving consent for his son to play. The reason for him wanting his son to play is so that they can play together during his absence. He's asked if edgeGamers will take a young player, and as per Tommy's reply the answer is yes.

I'm going to close this thread; sounds to me like we're getting way off topic here, and I think if anyone has any other concerns or questions they should probably PM Jeff personally.

Edit: Jeff if your son does decide to join egO, just post the app in the recruitment office, but if you could also give me a quick PM to let me know that he's joining along with his in-game-name, I'd apreciate that =)
