XBox 360 laptop connectivity issues.

Wifi help

Howdy. So I have one of the old xbox 360's, without wifi. I don't have the money to purchase an adapter for it, so I had hooked up my laptop to my xbox via ethernet cable, and that enabled me to play live as long as the laptop was connected to the wifi. Recently, however, it doesn't work. When I plug in the ehternet cable, I lose my wifi, and both my wifi connection and the LAN become local connection only. I have done a ton of stuff trying to fix it.

I have tried "Bridge Connection" but it says I need two high speed internet or LAN source."

I have tried enabling the wifi connection to share with other devices, but it doesn't work when it's checked.

I never had to disable my firewall before, though looking online it appears that it works for some?

Also, when I unplug the ethernet cable, I get the connection back, but I still can't connect to the internet. Everytime I do a repair thing using windows, I get a DNS error. Anyone know what's goin on?

First things first.
Let's check to make sure your DNS settings are correct.

On your laptop, open up a command prompt and type "nslookup" without the quotes and hit enter.

If you get an invalid return or an error, your DNS settings are incorrect.

EDIT: Ric,
I googled "fix DNS problems" (because I am so smart) and found the command to flush my DNS. I flushed my DNS, and now nslookup gets a positive response. I'm going to test live now.

EDIT #2:
Still doesn't work. While I had the ehternet cable plugged in, I could still use the internet for a lil while, and then it conked out and messed up the DNS settings. Even if I flush the DNS, it still won't let me reaccess the internet unless I restart my computer.

Next step is to make sure both devices are obtaining your DNS automatically.

Would you mind me taking over your computer via a program called TeamViewer some time?

It's a lot better versus me typing a paragraph of instructions.

If not, let me know, so I can get these instructions typed up.

Once I am done and your issue is resolved, you can always remove TeamViewer.
