A Gaming Computer

Hello eGO!

I need some help here and I don't know much about computers though D:
I'm looking for a good desktop computer(Preferably a gaming computer) under 1k that I might get later this year.

Things i'm look for is that it comes with a monitor, can possibly do dual monitors, and any extra things that make the computer better. As long as it can support good gaming and such.

It would be great if you could help me find some good computers, places to buy computers, or anything! Any help would be great.

I have a few questions that will help make this easier on you and everyone
else here that plans to help...

1. Do you have an Operating System such as Windows 7 or Vista?
2. Out of this list, what peripherals do need?
   • Monitor
   • Keyboard
   • Mouse
   • Sound System (ie. speakers/headset)
3. Do you want a pre-built computer, or one that you can build?

A pre-built one would be good. And the ones I need mostly is the Monitor. Also I have Vista, but can get Windows 7.

I highly suggest learning to build your own.

It really isn't that hard, and feels very rewarding.


Also you can usually save some money.

It is rewarding to do it on your own. Their are times you may not always have someone do it for you. This system here is what my brother put together for me as I watched him to do it. I learn by watching. Computer had to have a bios update. We first tested the cpu, which did not take. Luckily my father's cpu was just enough to boot the system to allow a bios update. I got real lucky not having to buy another cpu for that.


I recently updated the cpu fan after 3 years of use. This fan came with a revision/model update. It made it easier to slap the thing right on. I used my anti-static wrist strap. Some people think the straps are lame, but their well worth making sure you don't short-circuit the board. Especially if you are working on your system while being on carpet and what what was spent on the parts.

Do you have a preferred retailer?

Is there a big box retailer near you we can check out the website for and make a recommendation? For example, for me, big box retailers near me would be Future Shop and Best Buy.

And as for building my PC. I might not build my own, I'm looking for a prebuild one, but i'll look into building one.

Monitor is a bit too small for my tastes though, you might want to check out the one without a monitor... and just get a cheap, but good brand monitor elsewhere (e.g. LG, Samsung).

Defiantly this. It may seem slightly intimidating the first time you open the case, but it's really quite easy. Plus, you'll have a much better system for a better price.

We can recommend the specs and you can try to find a local computer store and they can usually build it for you if you give them a list of components. =)

My local independent store charges $30 per build... to give you an impression of cost.
