Need help choosing a new power supply

Hey guys, I'm going to be power supply-less within the next few days, and I need help choosing a new one, since I know nothing about power supplies, except for what voltage is decent, I guess.

Here's my criteria:
At least 600W
Costs no more than $30

I was looking at this one, but I really don't know if it's decent for the money (nor do I know if it's even possible to get a decent 600W power supply for $30 or less), and I don't know how it compares to the current 500W PSU I have right now, so I'm not sure if I should buy it.

I'm sure that someone much more knowledgeable than me in power supplies will be able to help me out.

cost 25.99 580w only get it if u do not find a better one this is like ur last resort
and phobus is right for that price u will get a crappy psu

I would recommend the budget be brought up to around $80.

I recommend this one, though, if you're already certain you need atleast a 600W PSU.

AMD Phenom II X4 965 3.4GHz processor
EVGA GTX 460 graphics card
One 1TB hard drive, a couple 40GB hard drives

Yeah, you're much better off dishing out the extra money for a corsair or something. The power supply is a pretty darn important part of the computer. If you got a cheap one things might just go bad.

You can sometimes find CX430's for $30 or less on rebate though


You might as well just burn your money if you are acctually going to buy a $30 "600W PSU". PSU in quotes because it won't "supply" anything when it is on fire. (like the one in the OP)

Well, if he has a dedicated GPU he forgot to mention it's still up in the air. If he's running integrated, he wouldn't need more than 200W

I'm rocking a similar rig to his with a GTS450 and I was okay with 450W. Other than the fact that it sounded like a tornado. :scared:

Wow, haha, can't believe I forgot the GPU. I have an EVGA GTX 460. Updated original specs post.

If $30 really isn't possible, I do actually have a total of $50 to spend right now. I really don't want to spend that much on a power supply, but if that's what I must do, then that's what I must do.

That is, even if my rig requires more than a 500W power supply.

It's under $50, has a couple PCI-e 6-pin connectors, and it's made by a reputable manufacturer. That's the best you're going to do.

Good luck finding a decent PSU for $30.

1 PCIe connector. He has a GTX 460 (2 PCIe connectors) so that won't work.

I'm still sticking with "This is a very bad idea." You need to increase your budget to about $60-80. If you don't, you will regret it in the future.

You may have to up your budget, a power supply is the last place where you want cheap, as a cheap psu possibly won't even last very long to begin with.

Idk about that coolmaster, maybe i just like to be safe but 460W and 18amps seems a bit low? not to mention it has 1 6-pin connector, gtx460 needs 2 correct?

I was going to recommend the corsair CX400 I got for 20$ along with my 460 but it seems to be replaced by the CX430 (which actually is quite a bit weaker where it matters).

You don't need more then a good high quality 400W unit for that setup, I ran a GTX460, 9800gt AND a Q8200 folding 24/7 on my CX400 for 5 months.....Its all you need.
