meh not impressed, I think its funny how he opens some apps and you get the vista/7 task bar at the bottom of the screen.

I think the new interface is great for a tablet, and for those who have touch screen computers/monitors.

However, with that being said I do not believe that the new interface will bode well with a standard keyboard and mouse, so I will be sticking with the standard Windows task bar and start menu interface of course.

Alternatively, the new interface would be amazingly powerful when paired with the Microsoft Surface (http://www.microsoft.com/surface/). It is an expensive device (close to $10,000), but it's applications and uses are evergrowing.

I think that Microsoft has the potential to compete better with Apple's iOS in the tablet market now. I also believe that the interface is the next step to expanding the role of touch surfaces in home and business. I would love to have a decent sized touch screen monitor to play with.

I saw it on Facebook, b/c I liked Microsoft and Windows, and it also said IE10 is coming soon. I hope that W8 actually is good. If I haven't upgrade to W7 by then, I'm just gonna get W8.

They are going to have to work really hard to win over the business world on this one. It has absolutely no features that will get this integrated into the corporate world. Every business that I interface with uses Windows XP. There has been no reason to upgrade to Vista or 7 for them and this video offers next to nothing for them. The only way to halfway sell this to the corporate world is to have a separate version. Touch screen? meh. Windows Phone look? meh. Give me some horsepower to run the stuff I need done at the office and the stability I need, then I will upgrade.

Except for one important note: Microsoft ended their mainstream support for XP 2 years ago, and extended support will end by 2014. So businesses will be forced to move onto new OSes, either Win7 or 8.

I understand that. But I have asked several CIO / SVP at major institutions of late (280,000, 250,000, 60,000 employees each) and none of them are even considering moving away from XP yet. It is not in their plans. They are large enough to demand support still.

I would say this would be absolutely horrible if it didn't have that Windows 7-looking app. Now it just doesn't look like an upgrade, rather than looking like a downgrade.

As of right now Surface is being tageted for commercial application, so 10k is pretty reasonable. Something consumer grade will come down the pipe eventually.
