Bulldozer releasing at E3?

AMD resurrects its 'FX' brand for speed freaks, lexicon lovers

We saw AMD's old "FX" moniker repeated on a leaked price sheet recently, but we couldn't be sure of its significance. Now AMD has confirmed that it is indeed bringing back the FX brand to denote hardware aimed at gamers and graphics enthusiasts. In keeping with its penchant for complicated taxonomy, the chipmaker will use the resurrected badge not on individual products, but rather on desktop platforms that combine top-of-the-range components -- including the forthcoming Scorpius platform that will consist of a 9-series chipset, HD 6000 Series discrete graphics and an unlocked eight-core Zambezi CPU. This is all part of AMD's efforts to square up to Intel and present itself as the PC gamers' choice, and to that end the company also revealed it is partnering with more games developers to encourage use of its HD3D, Eyefinity and Dual Graphics technologies. Full PR (excessive nomenclature and all) is after the break.

yep, basically all we got were the boxes, some screenies of idle clocks, and a few systems with them running in CHV's, but no actual numbers :(

Just because they are going to offer high core processors does not mean they haven't improved their architecture. There are several fundamental changes in Bulldozer that should be quite interesting. Read about them.

Also, i would liken BD more to 4 cores than 8, since the "cores" share a Floating point unit, so really each 2 cores will be about as powerful as a single core would be, but it will excell at multithreaded tasks thanks to the extra threads they get from having separate integer units (i think it's integer unit, could be the other way arround).

Edit: Appears that the Benching is a fake after reviewing CPUID info.

All I want is for the price of Phenom II X4 975 to come down to where the 955 is right now. :(

Hopefully by Boxing Day/Black Friday so I can upgrade my computer. :D

They sure are taking their sweet time bringing out their answer to Sandy Bridge... Hopefully I'm wrong, but it's starting to smell a lot like the G80 vs R600 fiasco.

I am dissapoint.

It seems like this is the real deal guys.

If these are the engineering samples.. they have a heck of a lot of work to do to become competitive.

I'm hoping this is a fake. But this is why I am a realist. I expected it to fail early on.

Edit: Enjoy:

I was initially right. BD is a let down. Lets hope they get it right at B1 at least. Good thing they didn't release!

I smell another Duke Nukem...

we have nothing to say that Cinebench properly stresses them correctly. Since the FP and Integer units are split up differently than anything before, it could be that Cinebench is an anomaly in performance. Also could be straight up fake. who knows.

I'm still optimistic. Not gonna believe anything until i see some legit benchmarks from a real review site. Tired of rumors
