Microsoft Press Conference Comments

@ Cut Chemist I hear that statement so often about these Conferences, it's getting old.

Plus: Kinect is getting a lot more games, not just casual, but also to the hardcore gaming crowd. It's also being utilized more to make the 360 an entertainment device, utilizing the Zune interface, making it compete better against the PS3.

Negatives: Not many casual games for BOTH adults and children. Most of them appear to be tailored for kids, but that's fine with me. We were all kids once and we need games that are made for us, and not rated Teen. Disneyland and Sesame Street are great for those between 4-8.

@Rukus I already beat ya to it.
I didn't see one game that appealed to the hardcore gaming crowd using kinect. They all made the ones that were supposed to look extremely dumbed down.

That star wars game made me cringe.

The overall most impressive I saw was the squad voice control stuff for ME3. I can see that being integrated in a lot of future titles. Also Tomb Raider and Future Soldier looked very interesting

I was shocked to see Minecraft coming only to the 360. Kudos to MS for snagging up that game. Overall it was a good keynote speech. Now just give me the Ubisoft keynote speech so I can see more of Ghost Recon Future Solider.

I was looking forward to this press conference most (I own an Xbox 360), but was really disappointed.

Waaaay too much Kinect going on there. I could care less for it.

you mustve missed the ghost recon future soldier preview that was used completely with kinect, no controllers at all for shooting and stuff

That press conference was all Kinnect. What they showed looked good, interesting, and it was nice to see where they're taking Kinnect, but I was hoping for a little more...

This console cycle is being extended; I suppose the Kinnect is enough for Microsoft to feel secure that a new console announcement isn't needed? I guess I was looking forward to something...else. I thought with Bungie gone Halo wouldn't be back on the 360. Don't know what I was expecting, but Microsoft didn't have it.

Not disappointed, but not blown away. meh.

What I thought about the stuff I saw:

Halo CE remake: Want! But not so badly that I'll preorder/pay full price.

Halo 4: WANT! Rite nao! *fanboy alert* (Kind of worried/cautious though since its being made by 343 industries...)

Fable the journey: !!!! *another fanboy alert*

Minecraft using connect: Eh, kind of cool but... I already have for pc so meh.

Ryze: Pretty cool looking, may have to give it a go

Mass Effect 3: WHY... why do you torment me with epic new voice commands and leave me waiting for months on end!?

Didnt really care about anything else that was mentioned/shown

Yeah, I saw it. It was horribly slow, that's why I put dumbed down. The position you use to shoot doesn't look intuitive at all.

Couldn't agree more however you missed Ghost recon and gears of war.

how was it horribly slow? it looked just fine on the response times especially for a console. what i saw was some cool ways to play a shooter that didnt look to have clunky positions, they seemed pretty simple and easy to use

Personally I like the Conference and everything they did. Microsoft has taken their time with the development of Kinect, and I for one, think that it will pay off. I thought that Kinect support for Mass Effect 3, Future Soldier, and Fable: The Journey are refreshing from the games we are used to seeing. I for one will be playing future soldier on both Kinect and a Controller, it might be fun in different ways on both. Microsoft is trying to catch up (of sorts) with the extras that were seen with the ps3 when it launched. Personally I don't see it as a bad thing, because they are now bringing in newer gamers, younger gamers, etc. This might not be new to us, but its new to them and new to the 360.

Lets get to the meat of the conference (in my opinion). Gears of War and Modern Warfare. Sure most of us played a Gears of War game, and we know what to expect from the third title. I for one enjoyed the classic Unreal feel of the demo shown. To be specific, I mean the silverback mechs. In previous Unreal games, there have be a variety of vehicles you could use. Gears of War however, limited you to driving levels, escorts, and ride alongs. The silverbacks are an interesting twist to the core gameplay. They provide higher firepower, and mobile cover! Of course theres always giant bossfights to look forward to :).

Modern Warfare 3......oh mw3, why you so crazy? The direct sequel to Modern Warfare 2 (of course lol) will have you defending New York after the events of MW2. Since we haven't seen any multiplayer footage, I will point out a few things I saw from single player footage.
Weapons: Besides the occasional M4, I saw a MP-5 with a new style to it. The grip of the weapon seemed to be missing, not sure of that was on purpose or whatever. I did notice the reload animation was from the mp5k of mw2, however that isn't a problem. A few weapons I saw in action were the AT-4, AK-47 (redesigned as well), P90, Ak-74u (used the cod4 pickup weapon sprite), Spas-12, and the g18. Personally I don't like most of the weapons shown in action, but oh well.
Gameplay From what I saw, it looks almost exactly like Modern Warfare 2, but thats not necessarily a bad thing. The campaign of mw2 was fun and very action packed. To simplify what I mean, if its not broken, why fix it? I just wonder what tricks will be used to make sure MW3 runs well on the 360, with all of the explosions, smoke, and gunfighting going on. We should see when its released.

Crud I forgot about Halo. The Teaser for Halo 4 doesn't show much, unless you didn't finish Halo 3 on Legendary difficulty. In this case, since I'm not sure who has or hasn't, I'm not gonna say anything about it. I will talk briefly about Halo CE: Anniversary. Its been 10 years, 10 long years. Many things have changed in the industry, but one thing is for certain: Without Halo: CE, there would be no Xbox 360. It seems that the industry thought that it should have a facelift, but keep its original gameplay (at least for campaign). I will be getting the game first day for sure. I haven't touched CE in what feels like years, so this will be an enjoyable trip to the past. Plus its using a layered version of the original CE engine that we saw on the original Xbox, so if you really want to play it the old way, just press a button and presto lol.

Things I love: Minecraft 360 Halo 1 Remake, Lara Croft, Ryse, Fable Journey (basically a kinect spinoff of fable), Ghost Recon (OMG GHOST RECON)

Not Impressed: Any of the "casual" kinect games, MW3, Gears 3, new xbox GUI.

Didn't watch the conference, but that sounds about right...except I don't care for Ghost Recon or Fable or Lara Croft and I have no idea what that Ryse game is.

In other news, I'm still not getting a Kinect any time soon.

Lara Croft actually looked like an impressive adventure game for the PS3. I've a feeling it'll do well in sales. Ryse is a new game being developed based around the Fall of Rome. Looks promising.

Gonna be hard to outdo Uncharted
