computer doesn't recognize headset?

so, my computer was recently repaired, and i went to plug my headset in. it has two jacks, a red microphone jack, and a green headphone jack. according to the microphone page on steam settings, the mic itself is working, but there is no sound coming through the headset.

i tried going to the sound settings in control panel, but it doesn't recognize that anything is plugged in.

any help would be great!

Have you the means or have you tested your headphones in another machine? Does your headset work outside of steam? Verifying that your headset works outside of your machine will help with diagnosis.

Side thought; check your device manager for errors/conflicts/missing drivers. Techs tend to forget the small things. Reinstalling your sound driver is never a bad thought. Check with your machine/soundcard's manufacture website for the latest drivers.

well, no sound comes through with itunes either

Simply put,
go to Device Manager through control panel and uninstall your Sound Driver, then re-download applicable one for your computer.
