I made the foolish choice of doing a trade outside TF2 in exchange for items.

When I looked at the guy's profile I acted on impulse and made the trade when I saw profile comments along the lines of "Thanks for the game, enjoy you items!" After some snooping around, it became obvious he had multiple accounts.

I'm not mad that I'm down some money, it's more that I'm upset that I got tricked. I never fall for this kind of crap and yet it's happened. I hope he gets banned before he can scam anyone else.

Not really much point to this thread. I just wanted to vent.
 
It happens to the best of us. You live and learn from mistakes like this.
 
Feel your pain bro. This is why I never let anyone "borrow" my items for "negotiating a trade" or anything along these lines. The best person to know how you want your items handled is you, and no other.

What items did you lose?

I didn't lose any items. The deal was I bought him a game in exchange for his items because he was "quitting."

I'm sure his scamming will come back and bite him in the ass soon. I've already reported him and Valve can check my transaction history for proof.

Should have got your items first. TBH you shouldn't be doing money trades with strangers. Valve will probably say it is your own fault.

I guess you just have to move on...

We all learn from our mistakes, so don't be too upset about it.
 
I know EXACTLY how you feel. I had my steam account HACKED(because I was stupid enough to believe that %%$*^%#Password here#$@39236 thing worked... >.>) And I was so upset. I e-mailed Valve immediately and told 'em. They reset my password 10 minutes later. Never told anyone my password AGAIN. Sorry to hear that though!

Valve won't refund him but they'll probably investigate/monitor the person's account for fraudulent activity.
 
Dang man sry to hear that, learned along time ago not to trust random pplz when it comes to that.

I know they don't make band-aids for the soul, but if they did I'd send you one :) getting robbed in any fashion is terrible.


I know you were sending the game in this scenario, but for future reference, you shouldn't accept steam game gifts from strangers; as funny as it sounds, if someone uses a fraudulent credit card to buy a game, and it gets sent to you, you can lose your account over it.

It's a harsh policy, but I can see Valve's point of view. If they allowed people to keep the games or even just removed the stolen games from the gift recipients accounts, what would stop thieves from creating alternate accounts just to send gifted stolen games to?
