So, whenever I run TF2, and I join the eGO server, my computer freezes (I can still move my mouse), it gets stuck on "Retrieving server info".I press control alt delete, which dosnt do anything, and I press cancel, which also dosnt do anything, which in the end, makes me turn the power box off in the back of the computer. Please help :crying:

you are sure your PC is not damaged? Looks like a classic Freeze of Hardware or Software

Simple solution. Wait.

After all the updates, TF2 is very unoptimized. It takes even the mid-high end computers a good 3-5 minutes to load.

^ This.

I don't have CS:S, but for comparisons sake I tried out DOD:S (which I believe is somewhat similar in performance). While it only took DOD:S 14 seconds to join a server (31/32 player, Avalanche), it took TF2 52 seconds to do the same (30/32 player, 2Fort).

Obviously there will be variation depending on the map/player size, but in general I'd expect TF2 to take 3-4 times longer to load than CS:S does. It's just gotten super bloated over all the years of content updates.

Ive had this problem in day of defeat a looong while back, a few years ago when my pc wasnt "fast". Check your hdd if its full, or your comp may have a virus

What i did was a fresh reformat and that didnt work so i knew i had to buy another pc because it was time for a new one

It should only take you a good 2-3 minutes when you first connect. For me it only takes me 1 min.. If it takes longer than lets say 6 minutes then something is wrong with your pc..

CSS loads much faster than tf2. This problem that you are describing happens quite a lot to me. Wait 1-2 mins, if it still does not load click cancel (if you can) and reconnect to the server.

You said you turn the power off in the back. I repair computers and this could be bad for your hard drive. Have you tried holding down the power button for ten seconds or until it forces a shutdown? Also try control + alt + delete then open task manager and end TF2 under process tab. If TF2 freezes I would bet it was an old driver issue. Always uninstall old drivers and use a program like drivercleaner. This goes for audio and video drivers. I had this problem and when I re-installed windows it went away.
Make sure you have all critical windows updates
Try cleaning old drivers and then updating audio/video
Like I said when I re-installed using an image restore these issues in TF2 went away (this is a pain though)
Are you on wifi? If not try disabling your firewall/anti-virus while in game to see if that is the cause.
