Question about copyrighting.

Hey, whadup!

I just started mixing alot..and I now want to publish the mixes. But when I tried to uppload one mix at soundcloud, something came up about copyrighting..I know what copyrighting is, but it's still confusing.. so I was wondering, if you have bought the songs you use, are you then supposed to be allowed to publish them on youtube, soundcloud etc?

If not, is there something you can do to make the song "yours" ?

You're going to want to bone up on your understanding of Fair Use. Here's what I found on the US Copy Right office:

I'm pretty sure there are better explanations specifically for mixing and sampling on other sites.

Alright, I'm a DJ and I will answer you all of this.

Purchasing the songs you used have nothing to do with copyrights. Anything that you mixed is not yours. A mix is basically putting in lots of original songs together to make a mix. Which is what you do, those original songs are copyrighted by their original artists. Even though you created the mix it still dont not give you full ownership.

Couldnt have said it better myself Belkashif, I was gonna say the same thing.

Being a DJ as well, I have posted at least 4-5 mixes on soundcloud and I never got any copyright notice. The mixes I posted are TOP 40, Hip hop, and dance.

Another place to post mixes is mixcrate.net and beezo.net, but I do believe beezo is down temporarily.

Thanks!!! I have a dance mix on there as well. At one point I did have 4-5 mixes on there, But I think I deleted them for some odd reason.

How long have you been spinning for and what do you use? Serato, CD, Vinyl?
