Thinking I may not get BF3...

thats why i always just buy retail, much less hassle and gamestop is like 5 minutes away from my apartment
 
Yeah, a little too late to get into the digital download business over Steam imo.

Everyone was too busy drooling over the mass console software sales to see what Valve saw.

Me toooo. I'm moving toooo. And i've got a busy 2nd half of the year. I might miss out on the BF3 beta and a little bit of release time. Who knows! Time will tell! :(

Hopefully you and i will be free enough to play BF3 sooooon. :bored:

Yea I was just about to post this here myself this is a horrible move on EA's part their sales will probably shot down and also take a look at this:

If this is true their service has no chance of surviving as a digital download service, also this probably means Battlefield 3 may not come out on steam which would be a shame. =(

The digital distribution wars just got personal for EA: they’ve pulled Crysis 2 from the Steam store. It’s now available on the company’s Origin service, labeled as an exclusive offering.

Despite this, as of writing, the title is still available on Direct2Drive, Impulse, and GamersGate. However, it’s possible that EA is still in the process of cutting ties with other services.

While the jury is still out on whether this exclusivity will apply to all of EA’s digital offerings going forward, it’s a likely bet, as BioWare recently confirmed that its upcoming MMO Star Wars: The Old Republic will be an Origin exclusive. Moreover, today’s release of Alice: Madness Returns is nowhere to be found on Steam.

And here I thought they wanted to sell more copies of these games that are upcoming and supposed to be these amazing hits, guess they changed their minds about those.
 
Yaa....there is no way that I am supporting "Origin" if they do not release it on Steam. Looks like I will just buy retail and go to the midnight release.:sleep:(Gamestop or Best Buy)

I don't see the problem with this to be honest. I mean I've literally ran it through my head since I read it first on reddit and all I can come up with is that they're just trying to promote another source of digitally downloadable games other than steam, which is good for both Steam and EA in this scenario. It's good for Steam because EA's will inevitably fail with the public due to how clumsy and user-unfriendly it is compared to Steam while EA benefits from any money it makes through the system they've developed. It affects no other person aside from maybe people outside the UK/US that have to deal with outrageous pricing (Aussies, feel bad for you guys) because you can just pre-order at a local game store, which apparently is a good idea anyways.

I just fail to see why this is such a big deal and why everyone's blowing it out of proportion on the internet, assuming it's simply "because they can."

Anyone want to explain where this major problem is?

I know it's an underhanded, cheap, and for lack of a better word, prick-ish thing to do removing games already on steam from steam, but I'm focusing mostly on BF3 here. Also, I don't mean to ruffle anyone's angry feathers with this post, I'm genuinely curious as to why this is so terrible.
 
I just hope they do not make it like Valve games where you would have to DL and login to "Origin" to play online, even if u buy retail.
 
This move by EA will be a case study in the books to come (not a good one).

Also, why would a company like BioWare participate in this? I smell under-the-table dealings going on. I won't use Origin, Steam is fine enough like it is and it is the leader in the industry.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
