No more EA on Steam...

The quote in that article never said they would be Origin exclusive. Just that they would be on Origin. The exclusive part was the writer's interpretation.
There was a better article that confirmed it that I saw yesterday, couldn't find it though so I had to put that up as a placeholder, I'll look.

Here is a dev from SW:Tor confirming at least TOR will be origin exclusive. http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?p=6583778#edit6583778. Also, on the origin page for battlefield 3 the button said ONLY ON ORIGIN. But that seems to have been removed.

Either way, this is really stupid :/

That's the only problem I really see with this D: . That's horrible.

Not enough to stop me from buying BF3...but that's pretty bad.

Unless of course BF3 requires you to run and install Origin much like how SC2 requires you to connect to the new Battle.net. Which I am willing to bet BF3 will require since all of your stats and what not are supposedly stored on Origin.

This Origin stuff definately warrants more of the crys for boycott then the stupid pre order package which hasnt been proved as game breaking yet.

Also Carmine because of your avatar and signature changes you should change your in game name to Brony

So you aren't getting Battlefield 3, Mass effect 3, SW:Tor or any other future EA games? Since this model isn't just being applied to crysis.

Was just stating it, just showing how limited they are being with their DRM. There is a lot of issues if you have to reinstall multiple times.

I used Crysis 2 as an example simply because I felt it was developed the way it was specifically with consoles in mind (limiting the game's potential on the PC imo). I'm not convinced that Crysis 2 was a superior product over the first one because they developed to sell it to both PC and consoles. Granted I wasn't very interested in Crysis 2 in the first place either.

This is completely subjective and my opinion; but Mass Effect, to me, is a little easier to swallow as a single-player RPG, plain and simple. Also it was a console game first, so I can't really complain about that.

If Battlefield is limited in any way because it was developed for both consoles and PC, it could cause me to hesitate. I've been a very loyal customer as far as the BF Franchise is concerned, but I won't necessarily buy it just because it says Battlefield on the cover. It has to prove itself.

I already have certain reservations about TOR, which I've already stated in other threads; though I'm not that worried about TOR in terms of consoles because I tested some of the game.

I don't know what the big deal is. Can't we just run both?

EDIT: Steam and this new fangled EA thing.

Well, if Steam/Valve is saying they have a problem with EA games on STEAM because of additional DRM/3rd party install, etc...it's a bunch of baloney. Numerous games (notably Bioshock 1 & 2, the Dirt Series, Fable 2) require you to install GFWL, create an account with GFWL, and basically go through an entire embarrassing ordeal to play your game/save your progress.

At this point, it feels like there is something going on between these two companies we don't know about. It's not like there aren't other subscription based MMO's offered on Steam, and other publisher games that require their own DRM hoops to jump through.

The story of EA's Origin service...

Because everything is terrible if it isn't on Steam!

It's not really that big of a deal.

well my concern is anti cheat?, steam is also alot more convenait its basically xbox live for ur pc...except valve is more competent than Microsoft, its free, and its overall better. I have bought stuff from EA download manager thing before wasnt to bad if its just a plan old distribution service might be alright if they try to BE steam i suspect a huge fail because steam is a lot more than game distribution (although it the main purpose) it still however has many other features

Meh, EA knows they're late 2 the party. It'd be moronic 2 try 2 compete now. All valve would have to do is have 1 of their usual blowout sales and Origin would be crippled in 2 weeks tops. On top of that making BF3 Origin exclusive would alienate %80 of their player base.

You're right, EA isn't in a position to launch a service to rival Steam. Actually Gamestop and their newly acquired Impulse is the only thing that could rival Steam in the future...that or GoG.

EA has to bad of a rap, if orgins is just solely a game distributor its not to bad but if they try to be steam then i see them failing very hard steam has been around to long its to devolved has millions of members most of the time i don't see less than 2 million playing a game at any given time

I seriously don't see the problem with Origin that you guys see. I mean, buy your game, download it, install it, done. You don't have to keep Origin running or anything. You can still have Steam open, and BF3, or Crysis 2 or whatever shortcutted to Steam. That way everyone will know that you're playing it. I just don't see the problem
